That’s the story I guess its true. (I don’t know how much she has discussed it publicly. Obviously somewhat!)

Remember under the “Genius of the Carpathians” Romania was a super-Stalinist state in many ways like North Korea. The sad joke among diplomats at the time was, ‘Romania just like Africa (meaning starve!) only you freeze too!’ Dips told me that the highlight of the assignment was the chance to do shopping in Bulgaria. And remember this is before the fall of the Iron Curtin, Bulgaria was no picnic either!

Back to Ms Commannechi(sp) has said because of the oppression and societal distrust that she grew up with in Romania it took her a long time to adjust in the USA. Hence her failed (is it two?) first marriage(s). Good news it seems like now she has her head on straight has a good marriage and living as an American. If true Great!

Some factors in common.

I make it a rule, never believe anything written to promote the sale of a book...>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I agree. Qaddafi was pilloried in this way . He was accused of using his all female security detail as his harem, when in fact he was a devout Muslim who had wives and an intimate nurse from Britain.Qaddafi’s reason for the security guard was so that a whole generation of women would be able to attend the hitherto all male University system in Libya. Up until Qaddafi had made these arrangements women were denied university, or if admitted were discriminated against .No one dared interfere with the security guard in the academic world. It could cost them their lives.

Qaddafi wanted a whole new social strata of educated women across his country. He wanted to bring his nation into the modern world. Yet books on Libya and Qaddafi continually do him the dirty just to add to the sell factor. There has never been a corroboration of the allegation that Qaddafi used his security detail as a harem.

So you are right about not believing anything written to improve the ale of a book. But we have entered into an era of anti North Korean propaganda. Soon it will be difficult to tell truth from fiction. Perhaps this dynamic will cause Kim Jun Un to open up his country so we can know truly what happens in it. Who is not holding their breath? LOL.

Nadia Commenech(so) the Romanian gold medalist was raped repeatedly by Nicolae Ceaușescu's son. I think she was like 14 at the time.

On 25 December 1989, the Tree of Liberty was duly nourished.

However, if Fat Boy steps out of line in a nuclear way, the response must not be a few bursts of machine gun fire. It must be a nuclear genocide against North Korea! An example must be set!

thoughtomator: "Why are you pretending to be stupid enough not to know that the timeliness of this article is to crap on a diplomatic gesture that may lead to the reconciliation of the Koreas and finally and end to the war there?"

And what "diplomatic gesture" might that be?
Did the NORKOs give up their intentions to "reunite" Korea under Dear Leader's rule?
Did they announce dismantling their nuclear weapons program?
How did I miss all that?

And how could a New York Post article "crap" on anything?
Do you imagine anyone, anywhere reading such a article and thinking, "Oh, well, I was in favor of peace with NOKO, now that I see what their cheerleaders do, let's have war instead"??

thoughtomator: "They’re going through the effort to put together their nicest presentation and people look at that and say 'oh, but they’re sex slaves' based on inferences about NK culture that are also true in our own?"

Some women (and men) sell their, ah, "services" and they are not legal slaves unless: a) they were effectively forced into it against their wills and b) they are not fairly compensated.
The Post article doesn't tell us for sure how much free-will the NOKO girls have, but does imply they are much better off than they would have been elsewhere in NOKO society.

thoughtomator: "We’ve seen the war agitator script too many times to be fooled again."

I'd say you're suffering from a form of PTSD, like a war-veteran who jumps for cover when he hears a loud bang, you cry "war agitator" whenever somebody criticizes your Dear Leader.
I saw no "war agitation" in this article -- none, zero, nada war agitation.

thoughtomator: "There will be no sale on this war.
Volunteer your own kids, your own friends, for a pointless meat grinder micromanaged by politicians whose policies are determined by the latest poll numbers, if that floats your boat.
It is flat out wrong and evil to be volunteering someone else’s."

My Dad served & survived the first Korean War.
In those days the US had a draft and many draftees served & didn't make it.
But today it's a different story, there is no draft and I'm not certain one would be required to obliterate the NOKO regime.
Quality & accuracy could reduce the need for US force-quantity.

Finally, and most important, it's long been US policy of "no first use" of military force or nukes.
So your Dear Leader's fate is really in his own hands, if he behaves himself he could live long and die old.
If not, then not so much.

Fred Nerks quoting: "But of all Gaddafi’s great accomplishments, the one he’ll go down in history for..."

Why on a thread about NOKO cheerleaders are we being asked to admire the dictator Gaddafi??

Is it to remind us how wicked were Obama & Hillary?
And that has what to do with NOKO cheerleaders?

I’m not going back through the thread, but a freeper brought Gaddafi into the argument, and that resulted in replies.
