I like my ‘mater sangwiches with just mayo, salt, and lots of pepper.

No need to ‘gild a lily’. A BLT is something entirely different from a Tomato Sandwich.

My Pop was a meat and potatoes guy.
Could not abide Catsup because it contained O.N.I.O.N.S

I love Veg, onion, tomato, garlic, tomato, herbs.

He liked Lima Beans (Gakkk) and Ham though LOL

You are right that even with no protein the best way to have a tomato sandwich is grabbing the mato warm off the bush, slicing it, and eating it with mayo between slices of good bread. But I have upped the protein by sticking a sharp flaky slice of cheddar in there, that works.

And yes, with (turkey) bacon, lettuce, and mayo is also a great way to enjoy fresh toms.

That’s if you can get good, ripe, homegrown tomatoes. I have fond memories of us picking bushels of sweet corn and Ruskin tomatoes in my teen years and summer dinners of corn, tomatoes and sweet sliced Vidalia onions - YUM! It’s very hard to find good tomatoes anymore. Even the “heirloom” ones from Fresh Market or Whole Foods are hit or miss for me here and they are pricy.

I love a good tomato sandwich with Duke’s mayo, salt and pepper on white bread.
