I suspect that even in Canada, kid hockey players no longer play on outside rinks much.
Makes them ephemeral indoor Snowflakes.
I grew up in Calgary for awhile. It always depends on the hockey organization you enroll your kid in. If the district organization says “no, it’s too dangerous”, then no one will. Outside rinks are far and few so the hockey kid orgs make you enroll your child in idsoor hockey rinks. It’s also a safety issue with security and a damn warm place to watch your kid play pee wee hockey at 5 in the morning.
try doing that in -15 degree weather in an outside hockey rink.
