I think that is great, very cool. You are right, nobody in the US outside of the small minority that is really into hockey has ever heard of that.

That last USA goal was superb. She made three fakes and the goalie was so faked out that the shooter had an empty net to shoot into. Good job. She’ll relive that forever.

She doesn't look A BIT like Derek Sanderson.

Just sayin'...

("Although he had been a leading scorer in junior hockey, his role on the high-scoring Bruins was to centre their defensive line with wingers Ed Westfall and Don Marcotte. The line excelled at killing penalties.[9] In 1969-70, the Boston Bruins made it to the Stanley Cup Finals, where they faced off against the St. Louis Blues. The series went to a fourth game where Boston was leading the best-of-seven series three games to none. After three periods, the teams were tied 3-3, and the fourth game would need overtime. After only 40 seconds of overtime, Bobby Orr scored the game-winning goal[10] clinching the Bruins' first Stanley Cup in 29 years.[11] Bobby Orr's goal went on to become one of the most famous goals in hockey history.[10] Often overlooked though was that Sanderson was the player who passed the puck to Bobby Orr for that goal.[12]")

Yeah - that’s where I’m from. They are 23-2-0 or something this year, with their first playoff game tonight at 7pm central today. (The team that can win 6 straight gets the title.) The girl’s team has a similar record - and won state last year. I’m not sure when the girl’s team got started.

I never played hockey - but sure looked up to them as a kid - playing boot hockey out in the street and pretending we were the high school stars of the day.

Watching the games this year, lots of the same names from growing up - the game is a family thing. Lou Nanne a few years ago had twin grandkids on the Edina team that took state that year - and he was up in the booth calling it.

When I was in High School (we won state twice in a row then) - Howard Cosell would do the live play-by-play! If I had the time and the money it would be fun to go back to the final days of the tournament - that sure was fun back in High School!

My oldest daughter went out with the goalie her senior year. And her best friend dated the team captain. I heard a lot of hockey stories. But better hockey than hickey ...
