We're not going to see the 2nd Amendment repealed and 99% of guns confiscated, despite the fever dreams of the gun grabbers. But what's the worst case that actually has a chance on this issue in say, the next decade or so?
The pendelum does swing, so at some point the Democrats are going to be in power again. Should they get control of Congress and the White House, I think we could see:
1) All expansion of gun rights (national reciprocity, NFA reform, etc.) dead in the water. This may already be the case.
2) A new and expanded "assault weapons" ban, but this time written to outlaw transfers as well. Grandfathering of such weapons would be allowed, but they would have to be turned in to the government for destruction upon the owner's death.
3) Universal background checks and registration of all firearms.
Best case (realistic) scenario? The status quo. I think the laws as they are now are as good as it's going to get. Yeah, I'm a bit pessimistic right now.
Easy. All out civil war.
Every time there is a pro gun Bill being considered (suppressors, Reciprocity) there is going to be a shooting the Brown Shirt Media will get hysterical about and the GOP will lose what little spine they have. The Rats wont actually do anything they will just try to scare people.
There’s going to be some nibbles around the edges and those may be shut down by tying a poison pill (national reciprocity) to the attempted nibbling. It will involve some interesting political dance moves, for sure. If I were there, I’d double-down on the poison pill by eliminating the gun-free school zone and tie it to grant funding on positive security programs for schools that harden the target.
I think Trump mitigated that with his announcement on bump stocks. That,
and the deligitimizing of this student-led protest movement and a push for armed teachers ought to do the trick.
They will do the same thing that Obunghole and his super-majority CONgress did: Nothing!
I think it’ll be pretty much what Trump has proposed: more in-depth background checks, more attention to mental health, and possibly only age 21+ folks will be able to buy semi-auto rifles. I think there should be a military exemption for the last one.
I don’t have much of a problem with any of that. It doesn’t affect face-to-face sales at all, except for the age restriction.
I think very little will change despite even folks like Jesse Waters exclaiming this time is different and the big MO is huge. The big Mo will die, it’s a media fabrication.
Trump will allow for sensical adjustments. The GOP doesn’t have the guts for national reciprocal laws, which is shameful.
I was reading the other day where liberals are trying to limit banks from doing business with gun manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers.
If you’re involved with making or selling weapons - they want your banking privileges removed.
It works this way. Already banks cannot do business with rogue nations, drug cartels, organized crime organizations, money laundering schemers, and so on.
And the push is on to add the manufacturing and sale of weapons to the lists of undesirables.
I see no decline in the power of the Left and their control over the apparatus of massive, progressive government. And I see no decline in their wish to continue pushing a whole range of collectivist, statist programs.
All supported at its base and fed by massive government debt, manipulated interest rates, and printed money.
Sooner or later - the 2nd Amendment will be gone.
Short term worst case: Liberals don’t stop whining in a week and move on to something else like they usually do. We’ll have to listen to their BS nonstop for 5 years.
Long term worst case: a few “minor” limitations on current gun rights that don’t make any real changes now but set a precedent for bigger limitations in the next generation after those kids grow up thinking it’s proper for the government to regulate guns for our safety. We don’t usually lose rights all at once - they erode a little bit with every generation.
The Dims have been in power before, but I think many of them recall that anti-gun laws are political suicide.
I agree.
This could well be the case. In a few generations, we may look like Australia in regards to gun rights.
One word. Maryland
The drooling lunatics in the state senate are voting today on SB1029.
This will institute a 3 year in jail plus $5000 fine for the possession of a box ie: any detachable magazine capable of holding more than 10 rounds.
Flipping nuts.
I’m not encouraged...just heard Marco Rubio talking about he was rethinking his position...what a squish!!!
