Marcus Garvey, founder of Black Star Line
Garvey founded the Black Star Line for shipping and passenger travel, promoting the return of American blacks to Africa. Well, not ALL blacks.
I have no desire to take all Black people back to Africa.The Black Star Line went bankrupt and in 1923 Garvey was imprisoned for mail fraud in the selling of its stock.
There are Blacks who are no good here and likewise would be no good there.
In 1928, Garvey told a journalist: "When they wanted to get me they had a Jewish judge try me, and a Jewish prosecutor. I would have been freed but two Jews on the jury held out against me ten hours and succeeded in convicting me, whereupon the Jewish judge gave me the maximum penalty."
Strangely, he doesn't get much exposure during Black History Month.
