Marvel's latest blockbuster Black Panther is being called a "game-changer".
Yes, it's a superhero film but critics are praising how it deals with issues of race and identity.
And cinema-goers in Wales have noticed a nod to the country at the end of the film, Nation.Cymru reports .
In a scene set at the United Nations, the Welsh flag is flying as an independent state, alongside flags like those of Japan and the United States.
Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman as the hero who has to fight a powerful enemy after the sudden death of his father. It's set in the fictional African nation of Wakanda and also stars Michael B Jordan, Danai Gurira and Lupita Nyong'o. It's directed by Creed director, Ryan Coogler.
And it's been well-received by critics for its representation of race and gender.
Manohla Dargis in the New York Times wrote: "Race matters in Black Panther and it matters deeply, not in terms of Manichaean good guys and bad but as a means to explore larger human concerns about the past, the present and the uses and abuses of power. That alone makes it more thoughtful about how the world works than a lot of mainstream movies."
Haleigh Foutch in Collider wrote: "This movie is a game-changer. You have to go back to 1998, back to Blade and Wesley Snipes for the last time Hollywood launched a superhero franchise led by a hero of color."
And Peter Travers writes in Rolling Stone: "If you're thinking you're in for another macho power trip, forget it. The women are more than a match for the men in this game."
In Wales, Leigh Jones tweeted that that the special effects on the film were done by Industrial Light & Magic, a division of the company Lucasfilm whose general manager, Lynwen Brennan, was born in Pembrokeshire
Twitter user David Blunden appreciated the inclusion, he said: "Nice to recognised as a sovereign state (even if it's a fictional film)".
Black Panther is projected to earn as much as $170 million on its opening weekend, according to The Hollywood Reporter .
At least they mention Blade. The original is still one of my favorite movies.
Wakanda is actually an underground city located on the south pole. Their technology is so advanced that without it, earth would be without a magnetic field as we speak.
Black Panther is a propaganda film, designed to convert the masses to minority and ethnic nationalism around the world.
To my mind they can bloody well go eff themselves.
You are clearly uneducated and ill-informed.P>
Black Panther has been a comic hero for decades. The movie stays true to the roots of a hero struggling to rise into leadership, but also doing the right thing.
It is the bad guys in this film, who are black, that want to use racism as an excuse to murder people.
The film is about rejecting revenge and hatred.
But you are too uninformed and want to spout off like a libtard spouting off about firearms.
Free Republic once had higher standards.
Is the black scientist who created white devils from Wakanda or is that another mythical land?
If England continues its descent into a Third World cesspool, not only Scotland but Wales, Cornwall, and the rational counties of England are going to dash for the exit. Just watch!
Scots in my area will tell you they are an independent country with a voluntary arrangement with England; I guess Wales would be no different (though there is practically no independence movement there). Each fields their own teams for the FIFA World Cup; if they aren’t separate entities then NY, CA, and TX should field their own teams. We are the “United States”, they are the “United Kingdom”...
“Yes, it’s a superhero film but critics are praising how it deals with issues of race and identity.”
They have to praise it. To not do so would be horribly racist. Same as with Obama.
Even reviewers complain that they can't honestly review for fear of being called racist.
That said...I haven't been to a movie theater in 30 yrs.
I'll watch it when I can see it for nothing.
Don;t put words in my mouth Erik my FRiend.
I am speaking about the film not the comic book character.
The film is nothing more than a slick Jospeh Coebbels style piece of propaganda designed to divide America.
You may be entertained by it, but you can dress up a piece of shit all you want with whatever perfume you desire, special effects, mandingo , or whatever, the film is designed to promote disorder , period.
Lets make a movie where Captain America pounds the living daylights out of the Back Kitty, and watch the movie riots?
Buahahahahahahaha!
Alinsky has you lock , stock and barrel.
Welcome to the world of nationalist liberal fascism:

Did you see the film? If not, you are doing exactly what liberals do.
Did you see the film? If not, you are doing exactly what liberals do. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
No, I do not do what liberals do.
I do exactly what Liberal fascists do. And proud of it.
Winston Churchill taught us how to destroy fascism:
1) reveal
2) publish
3) ridicule.
I put my money of Winston Churchill, not Saul Alinsky like you do.
I see you did not answer the question.
You did not see the film and let others tell you what to think.
That is all I need to know about your opinion.
You did not see the film and let others tell you what to think.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
You watched the whole film and didn’t see a damn thing!
You have to decide whether to be fish or foul.
But then you do not know there is a war afoot, do you?Between freedom and liberal fascism.
Maybe you can read this, but you can wait until its made into a movie for all I care:
