Marvel Misses Another Easy Opportunity for LGBTQ Representation With Black Panther
IO9 Gizmodo ^ | February 12, 2018 | Charles Pulliam-Moore

In Ta-Nehisi Coates, Roxane Gay, and Yona Harvey’s most recent runs on Black Panther and World of Wakanda, Ayo and Aneka—two of the Dora Milaje—are lovers who play a pivotal role in the civil uprising that occurs at a time when Wakanda’s society is on the brink of collapse. Given the amount of screen time given to the squad of warrior women in Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther, one of the biggest questions about the film has been whether it would at all incorporate any elements of Ayo’s (Florence Kasumba) sexuality, or even the idea that queer women were a part of the Dora Milaje.

Hollywood’s love of money still overrules their love of all things queer. These comic-book blockbusters have been the major source of income for their dying business model. Can’t endanger that.

Saw someone on twitter who is white, who said he was going to wait until at least the second week to see the movie, because it wouldn’t be right for him to see it on opening weekend.

Right, because that's what comic books and movies should be about - representing LGBTQHEYISNTTHISRIDICULOUS. No need to entertain, just relentlessly bludgeon people over the head with political and social indoctrination.

I used to read a lot of Marvel comics. I recall Black Panther showing up in the Captain America comic right around the time that Cap got his own mag. I think BP also showed up in a Fantastic Four comic around the same time. I was never interested in the character. Unless he was in someone else's comic, I never saw him.

Oh, wait. I thought they made movies as a business. These are only supposed to be covert social awareness adds?

And they wonder why the business is in the toilet?

“Let’s add a bunch of crap that will REALLY make this movie and epic suck-fest. Yea. We’ll make the characters gay and include not-so-subtle social messages about it as a main theme in the movie. This has always been a rain maker for us! AND, AND... it will make help make Americans love the LGBT community more. It’s a WIN, WIN, WIN!”

Another pity superhero created so that minorities don’t feel excluded. Remember when superheroes weren’t created solely to appease certain groups.

For gods sake, why the f-— does everything have to have a gay theme to it??

There were no LGBT characters, plots, or other BS in the comics, so there’s no need to inject it into the movies just to placate a fraction of a percent of the perpetually offended!?!?

No, the 1960’s FICTIONAL king of a middle-African country called Wakanda that predates the black extremist group who has technological advances and is in the peak of human conditioning and health.

Hollywood is convincing a group that they aren’t good members of said group if they don’t see this movie....

Is this movie a biography? A historical piece? A documentary?

Nope, A complete work of fiction... and they have convinced a large pet of a group it’s something meaningful.

Watching poor ignorant folks getting played is depressing... I sadly am losing hope for large swaths of this community. I can appreciate the excitement of a major film with an entire cast of your ethnicity being of note, but to play it as it’s the “I Have A dream Speech” level of importance is repugnant.

I think the whole premise says terrible things about Wakanda.

The most advanced country on Earth, with super technology and highly skilled people — and yet they have done NOTHING to help the poor and downtrodden nations of Africa. It’s shocking.

At least the European colonial powers went to Africa and built schools, hospitals, roads and bridges. White Europeans delivered many positive benefits to Africans. The Wakandans? They did nothing!!!

Because psychologically crippled sickos whined for "a little tolerance," back in the late 70s.
When we gave it to them, they viewed it as license to rule the world.

That's what insane sickos do.
I see no downside to the deviants throwing millions$, spreading the wealth, on totally loser movies.

They have a point actually.

Instead of doing the We Wuz Kangz movie, they could have done the We Wuz Queenz movie and had them all be drag queens.

It would have been FAAAH-BULOUS
