Michelle Obama Unveiled Her Official Portrait – The Audience Reaction Says It All

An official portrait of former first lady Michelle Obama was unveiled at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery Monday morning. The painting was done by Baltimore artist Amy Sherald, who is known for her social justice painting style.

It doesn’t look like her at all.....Not enough hate, vitreol and just plain bossiness and priveledge conveyed. FAIL!

The portrait reminds me of a statue of Martin Luther King, Jr. on display at Marshall Park in Charlotte. If it wasn't labeled you would have no idea who it was. It has been referred to as World's Worst Image of Martin Luther King and there has been talk of replacing it because it's so bad.

Speaking as an artist, this is done in the “social justice” style, similar to Diego Rivera and others who did murals and posters in the 1930s. So...yeah. Its kinda flat and primitive and folksy. If that is what they wanted - that is what they got.

I had to look it up, apparently it is private donations since the GHW Bush administration.

Which makes it even all the more wonderful. I mean, even if we taxpayers DID pay for this, I would be all for it. I think it is hilarious, and...they seem not to notice just how bad the portraits are!

Even more, you will probably hear from liberals of all stripes and even those with artistic backgrounds, that the portraits are just wonderful!

This has made me smile more than anything else today! (Even more than the former Soviet citizen discussing the wonders of socialism with a brain-full-of-mush college student! And that was hard to beat!)
