This doesnt begin to pass the smell test. This is a likely fraudulent attempt to get sympathy from the public.
Next step, a GoFundMe page!
No, they didn’t have a house to sell. They had a used car to sell, and they started this adventure with something just over $10K, almost all of which they sank into the sailboat.... which promptly sank.
They sound like total incompetents, barely introduced to sailing and going through a difficult channel AT NIGHT, IN FOG. And they thought they would live on this boat for years to come, but they had no money (after buying and fixing the boat). Sounds like a perfect disaster couple, maybe Hollywood can make a movie.
A few years ago, my brother bought a 22’ sailboat with a cabin for $1000. The sails alone are the worth more.
Recall the couple last year who “had problems” and were floating adrift.

Key parts of women’s tale of survival at sea contradicted

Maybe an after the fact attempt at sympathy but I doubt scuttling was involved operation.
If the public wants to pitch in to help let em.
Fools need all the help they can get.
Not mine though.
My dear ole Dad hit a chunk of ice in the Chesapeake years ago while bringing his Grand Banks down to Fl.
He left kinda late that year which is why he was out there.
Thing went down in a few minutes and he only had time to get his small Whaler off the davits and into the water.
He had to leave his 2 Beagles behind looking out at him through the aft cabin window as it went down.
Pretty sad he cried telling the story.
Cost Guard picked him up.
Insurance company fought him tooth and nail, said he shuttled it. Sure with all his papers and dogs on board.
They finally paid.
I suppose scuttling happens alot.
And yes for those that like to throw it around here and IMO to much, there were guns onboard.
No, I think it shows how stupid people can be.
No one would believe a story like this if you pitched it in Hollywood. Unless they were gay dreamers.
