I got slapped on the leg and scolded by an elderly lady for misbehaving when I was 4. I never told my parents. You know why? I would have gotten smacked on the bottom again for having a stranger to correct my behavior in public!!!!
I didn’t spank my kids in public. I took them to the car and I didn’t have to do it often before they learned I meant business.
In many parts of the country, Georgia included, the dad would have been honor bound to beat that drunk mexican half to death for laying hands on his child.

I grew up in a very rural county, it was common knowledge that ANY responsible adult could tan your hide for being disrespectful or causing trouble. Then you got it again when you got home.
That system worked pretty good. Kept many of us out of trouble.
