He tried to nutrition it away. He deliberately avoided any medical cures until it became too advanced.
We also arent being given a timeline. I read a story about injecting minor cancers and making them go away.

Teddy K. had the glioma(sp) brain cancer, and he’s pushing up daisies. I think that is what Juan has. If there was a cure, I think that it would have been used on Teddy.
