State Lawmakers Want Tide Pods Repackaged
State of Politics ^ | 2/7/18 | Staff

Two state lawmakers this week wrote to the CEO of Proctor & Gamble urging the company to repackage their Tide Pods product to be child resistant and have clear warning labels about ingesting the detergent.

“While our legislation would only protect New Yorkers, we urge Procter & Gamble and all manufacturers of colorful detergent pods to offer the same protections to the nation and immediately commit to the precautions set forth in our legislation,” wrote the lawmakers, Sen. Brad Hoylman and Assemblywoman Aravella Simotas.

“It’s time that you recognized the danger to those least able to protect themselves from a poisonous product packaged like candy. If not, these products should be removed from store shelves as soon as possible.”

The kids eating them are old enough to open child resistant packaging and old enough to know better.

Bleach for the gene pool.

Darwin Awards in a box.

Seems to me that the dummies swallowing those things should have sense enough to not do that. There are some things that just can’t be fixed to protect the less than intelligent from harming themselves.

Don’t sell them to kids and require licensed adults to lock up their tide pods in a safe.

Scares me that people are so STUPID as to leave those things within reach of a child that sees it as something to put in their mouth like candy. Some people just don’t need kids. A big part of raising them is watching them........grrrrrr

Is there similar packaging restrictions on hash oil edibles that are blended into candies?

Kids do stupid things

Somehow I survived my childhood
I don’t recall reading any warning labels however

This particular craze is being amplified by social media
If one wants to put blame somewhere, start there

Don’t think about your kids people, just sit and wait for the latest rulings from government, and if any thing bad happens just blame the government because you were never told what YOU should do. /sarc (Like, as best you can, keep cleaning supplies out of the access range of little kids.)

The way to solve this problem is to have the parents of children who eat these pods sue P&G for packaging them to look like candy.

A few of these lawsuits will solve the problem faster than any legislative process.

But are little kids the ones who have been dying because of this? I thought it was mostly older pranksters doing this on a stupid dare?

"The kids eating them are old enough to open child resistant packaging and old enough to know better."

And if they aren't how are they going to read a warning label.

The problem is NOT going to be solved while national leaders indulge in them.

Remember the old iodine bottle with the skull and crossbones.

Lets stamp the pods.

Better yet...Tell mom to watch the kids and childproof their house. A simple hook and eye on a door...out of reach....is a good move...and tell the kid why it's there.
