Scientists unable to explain why ozone layer failing to heal

In 1987, countries of the world agreed to the Montreal Protocol, a treaty designed to phase out chlorofluorocarbons, or CFCs, responsible for destroying ozone in the stratosphere. The protocol has worked as intended in reducing these substances, and early healing of the ozone “hole” over Antarctica has been subsequently hailed by scientists.

But the study by Ball and his colleagues focused instead on the lower latitudes where the vast majority of humans live.

There, the scientists found a relatively small but hard-to-explain decline of ozone in the lower part of the stratosphere, the layer of the atmosphere that extends from about six miles to 31 miles above the planet’s surface, since the year 1998. Meanwhile, the upper stratosphere has been recovering.

“The precise cause of the trend is unknown but could be related to changes to the stratospheric circulation, which has a large influence on how ozone is distributed,” said Ryan Hossaini, an ozone expert at the University of Lancaster in Britain.

Geoengineering and usage of HAARP type of transmitters. Or it could just be airliners depositing pollution and disturbing the forces that rebuild ozone.

But, wait, weren’t we told the “science” was settled? I just can’t accept that the computer models were wrong.

I’m surprised they already haven’t identified the obvious villain - CO2 based global warming.

“YIKES - perhaps not due to CFHCs and I paid $350/lb to charge my AC unit.”

Of course it wasn’t CFCs. They started looking at the ozone hole during its expanding phase. They said it would take a hundred years for the ozone hole to “heal,” but it turned around and started contracting in just a few years—as part of its natural cycle, apparently.

I gave up using Freon TF for the cause. But I stocked up before the ban. This is all my fault.

What caused the ozone hole, was the lapse of the patents on the old refrigerant by Dupont. It was all political BS for cash just like global warming is now.

perhaps when we talk of the planets atmosphere and oceans we don’t understand the interactions between the sun and this planet or the different cycles that happen independent of mans influence on the environment.
