Davos Elite: Regulate Social Media Before Flyover Rubes Get Hooked on Wrong News Sources

[clip] The right wants regulation too, but of a very different kind. Multiple right-wing commentators have called for Google and Facebook, whose market share eclipses old 20th-century monopolies like Standard Oil and the Bell System, to be regulated like utilities.

The impetus is the threat of political bias from companies that now have more influence over the flow of news and information than any other company in history. Facebook, through a recent change to its news feed algorithm, threatens to undercut the success of new media outlets. Google, by tweaking its search results, could swing an election anywhere in the world. Twitter has been the birthplace of entire political movements.

Yet all of these companies are subject to less regulation on viewpoint neutrality than a small-time radio or TV broadcast station, which are subject to the equal time rule (not to be confused with the Fairness Doctrine.) This states that broadcast stations must give equal and equivalent airtime to political candidates who request it. Give a Democrat five minutes, and you have to give his opponent five minutes too.

In addition to the utility argument, which would subject the tech giants to similar rules on content neutrality that were previously applied to ISPs under Title II regulations, conservatives have also suggested tying social media company’s legal immunity to viewpoint neutrality. Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act exempts social media companies from legal liability for posts made by their users — without this protection, there is no way the tech giants could have grown to the size that they have achieved.

AND THAT’S WHY WE DON’T WANT NET NEUTRALITY!

Fakebook and Screwgle have no ground on which to brand certain blogs and news sources as disreputable.

They should just call it blacklisting the political dissenters and be up front about every single writer they are calling out.

I agree on net neutrality, but I do want equal time and I want to see regulation of social media if that will save conservative voices. For me, the ability to have our voices heard is one of the most important issues today. Without it, every other scandal is ignored and forgotten and we lose. Well, we do still have President Trump’s tweets. Let’s hope they can’t stop him, at least.

And they’ll shadow ban our objections and no one will know we even cared about the issue.

Someone here pointed out yesterday. They want you to be carefully registered and monitored to use social media, but not so much for voting.

The Davos elite want control of content, suppression of dissenting voices, control of information, interfering with movements like AfG, BNP in the UK, exposing the climate change fraud, Swedes fighting back, MAGA, etc.
The Davos elite want social media users to have their online identity linked to a government registered ID.
Anyone remember Obama wanting everyone to have to have a Government assigned number before you could access the internet?

This fight is literally as important as our right to keep and bear arms.

The are the exact same euro leaders who centuries ago sought to ban the printing press because they did not want regular people reading books.

These old gents are hundreds of years old, eh? What's their secret?

And just for the record: could you name even one "euro leader" who "centuries ago" sought to ban the printing press?

Google amd Facebook are the real robber barons. Stealing personal information, and selling it without knowledge or approval of the rightful owners, and using it to target and suppress those people they can’t control.

I think SOMEONE has to. Yes, government can go astray. But it’s like one extreme of a pendulum. When the motion stops - when the pendulum reaches its limit - then the pendulum is pulled toward the other extreme, passing momentarily through the middle. What I want, of course, is Plato’s Philosopher King. And, maybe, Trump is that force pulling the pendulum back from the extreme that’s been liberalism. And, yes, that other force will eventually wrest control from him. But I believe in Trump and I believe in the theory of America. We aren’t going to become a South American disaster. And it will never be calm. And we will spend no time in the middle.

I’ve been here long enough.

I used to write little notes on Jesse Jackson’s Operation Breadbasket notes in the laundry room. And I heard him describe his view of America that I disagreed fundamentally with. I never doubted my right to my own opinion then.

Or now.
