In the original Airport (movie) Helen Hayes played a part similar to this - she would stowaway on flights. Security was almost non-existent back then.

I remember seeing that original airport movie when I was a kid back in 1970.

I think Helen Hayes won a best supporting actress Oscar for that role.

Back in the sixties, I knew several college kids who did that regularly to fly back home for holidays. You could also accompany passengers on board before the flight.
