Im going to stay here a while longer and continue fighting to return Virginia to the fold. We went purple a number of years ago, and now appear to be blue. But if Trump is successful in cleaning up the swamp, I think a lot of the leftist dirt-bags will start leaving and we can transition back tourple and then, God willing, work our way back to red.
Maybe Im overly optimistic, but Ive lived in Virginia since I was 6 months old. I love my commonwealth and I am not quite ready to write her off.
I had always planned to retire and die here. With that said, though, Texas and Wyoming are looking pretty good these days.
By the way, I hate the color-code used by the media and politicians these days. Red is the color of for socialism, communism and the left. Red should be the color assigned to democrats. In fact, if I remember correctly, that was the color code used back when Reagan was running for president. I cannot remember exactly when they changed it, but its been red=republican and blue=democrat for quite a while now.
On the other hand, I suppose theres an argument to be made that it should be red=democrat and slightly-less-red=republican. There does not seem to be much difference between the Main Stream Parties (MSP) any more.
We should have listened to George Washington.
I argue that the big flip on the color assciated with the parties was in the 2000 election, and it was intentional. It drives me nuts, too. Red is the color of Communism, and the American Right were always the true-blue Patriots.
My recollection is this - the color code started when Reagan was elected. The fledgling USA Today (a Gannett liberal rag company) put out the color code. Their newspaper went into graphics, numbers, charts, very short articles, etc. From its birth, I always thought it was intentional to not assign red to the Dems for the very reason you gave; they knew its color (”Better Red Than Dead”) would actually be descriptive of who they really are. In conversation I do not use elementary school color descriptions to describe the political leftist Dem and Republican represented states. If colors had to be used, the Dems are the red states, and the Reps are the red-white-&-blue states.
I know what you’re saying about VA. My mother moved down to West VA and I’ve been to VA many times. I’m still in Western NY. I turned my mom on to politics and she’s a staunch conservative/Trump supporter. But VA is the original state and one that does deserve to be fought for.
