“icy” water on Aug. 12???? I don’t think so.... but one can get hypothermia in prolonged exposure to water (or even air) well below human body temp.

You bet it’s cold, it is pretty cold 365 days a year, I spent a bunch of time in the Columbia River back in the ‘70’s and I am still looking for my third testicle ... Brrrr
You must live in the Tropics or something, try jumping into a high mountain lake in the middle of August and you'll scream when you discover how cold the water is.
A college roommate was from Eagle River, WI. Her birthday was near the Fourth of July so wed all go up there every summer to celebrate it. One year it seemed warm enough to go tubing. We didnt last long. Cold water!
Absolutely. My canoe went belly up on the Nantahala River in NC in the middle of summer. By the time I got to shore, my legs were so numb I couldn't feel the bank to get a foothold to push myself up.
