Rochester police say 25-year-old Alexander Weiss claimed he shot and killed 17-year-old Muhammad Rahim in self-defense after a minor car crash at the corner of 31st Avenue and East River Road, on the city's northeast side, Sunday morning.
But a classmate and close friend of Rahim, Esther Fischer, said she finds Weiss's story hard to believe, because Rahim was not an aggressive person.
"I could see Muhammad getting into an argument with the guy, but I cannot see him threatening the guy to the point where he thought he needed to shoot him," Fischer said. "I think he was murdered, that's what I think."
Fischer said Rahim "liked to party," but was "not into hard drugs." She was surprised Rochester police indicated Rahim and another passenger in his car might have been impaired at the time of the shooting.
"He just did not do that kind of stuff, because I know he used marijuana, but not hardcore drugs," Fischer said. "But if the autopsy shows that to be the case, I guess it is what happened."
In an interview Sunday, Rochester police Capt. John Sherwin said, "Two individuals, the victim and the 17-year-old male who confronted the shooter in this incident, might have been under the influence of drugs." In an email Monday, Sherwin told KSTP he put the drug use information out publicly because several witnesses told investigators that Rahim and other teenagers in his car had used drugs that day, "and the use of illegal narcotics in this incident would be relevant to the investigation."
Investigators are looking into a claim by Weiss that he shot Rahim in self-defense after he and Rahim, along with another 17-year-old male from Rahim's car, got into a verbal argument moments after the car crash.
Sherwin said Weiss does have a legal permit to carry a handgun, and a gun believed to be used in the shooting was now in police possession and part of the evidence in this case.
Weiss remains in the Olmsted County jail, where he was booked on a probable cause second-degree homicide charge. He has not yet been charged with a crime.
No evidence of a firearm on the deceased.
Bad shoot.
“I could see Muhammad getting into an argument with the guy.. but I cannot see him,,,”
“Fischer said Rahim “liked to party,” but was “not into hard drugs.””
So according to his friends he was a hothead and a doper. Stoned and pissed off he jumped out and started a fight. You don’t know if it was a bad shoot or not. The victim of his attack may very well have been defending his life. The absence of a gun means nothing. Do you know the physical condition of the shooter? Do you know the size differential? Do you know if mad Mohammed was choking him?
Sounds like he was also outnumbered too and at least two jumped out and confronted him.
You don’t know that.
Poor reporting. Who “hit” who in the first place?
If drugs were involved, then we will need to know the amounts in their blood tests. Same for alcohol.
What aren’t they telling us about this story? Could there be a hidden issue that the media/police don’t want revealed right now? Only time will tell if everyone involved is honest. Then justice can be done.
Maybe under MN law, but not here, from the sounds of it. And maybe not there.
usual ends with your right to self defense.
I'm not buying it. Is this type of testimony actually allowed during a court proceeding? It's testimony of character not facts.
I don't know if the shooting was justified or not. Nowadays if someone threatens to kill you some may take preemptive action. Is there any blame? As it is he was not a lawful concealed carry and had no business carrying the gun. He'll certainly do time in blue state of Minnesota.
Shooter was on his way to coach a youth basketball team. The stoner cut in front of him and narrowly missed. Right away Stoner throws it in reverse and hits the coach. Then Stoner gets out with a passenger and they start the chest bumping crap.
Outnumbered, the CCW coach pulls his pistol. Stoner “dares” him to shoot.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
He had a permit to carry.
If you are right, Weiss still may not have been legally right to shoot the kid unless he was physically attacked inside his car, or was faced with a “deadly” threat by the deceased.
See if any article talks about fingerprints on Weiss’ car, and what does the girl have to say about any “chest bumping”.
As I said before, I smell a hidden issue here which I won’t go into so that I don’t make a fool of myself without having read the official police report/findings, including tox screening.
We don’t have enough information.
From the article.
Sherwin said Weiss does have a legal permit to carry a handgun, and a gun believed to be used in the shooting was now in police possession and part of the evidence in this case.
Good news is I won’t lose any sleep concerning myself about Muhammad Rahim.
See: Muhammad_Rahim
The cold dead corpse of Rochester's Mohammad Rahim is probably an Afghani "refugee" named after the cold dead corpse of the Afghani al Qaeda leader of the same name.
Mr. Weiss did America a favor by eliminating one of "them".
No evidence of a firearm on the deceased.
Irrelevant.
L
Muhammad Rahim would have sooner or later succumbed to SJS* and killed him some Infidels, so it was preemptive self-defense.
*Sudden Jihadi Syndrome
I must have misread that he had a permit. Makes it solid, live persons word against dead persons word.
