1. You DON'T leave a 6-year old unattended with a bat.
AND
2. Google AIN'T a doctor.
AND
3. You AIN'T his "buddy", you AIN'T his "pal" - you're his FATHER. You shoulda acted like one and taken the kid for medical attention. Who cares if the kid didn't want to get a shot?
Hope the kid pulls through ...
I'm sorry, what?
Seriously, I'm saying a prayer for this child of really, really foolish parents.
>>but relented when Ryker cried at the thought of getting shots.
SMH
Willful ignorance can have deadly consequences.
By this time her husband and grown son came running. They killed the skunk and wrapped the head in a plastic bag and headed for the hospital.
All three of them had to have the shot. But it was 100% effective. The skunk was positive for rabies. All three of them lived.
The hospital told them that skunks with rabies hiss and spray droplets of infected saliva into the air. They were all exposed, especially my friend with the bite on her leg.
This happened 15 years ago in Calif.
Ditto on all of that and I’m glad they put that in the story.
Maybe just maybe it will help some of the knucklehead parents who are so common out there.
Considering that rabies is 100% fatal once symptoms show up, that father was just plain stupid not to take his son for treatment.
The “Wisconsin” protocol has had two successes, and several failures. Until we know why it was successful in two cases, we won’t be able to do much to improve survival of symptomatic rabies.
pops sounds like a dumbass. You put a sick bat in a bucket and tell your kid not to touch it? At least put it up high!
I remember this
Willow Creek Child Survives Rabies
https://lostcoastoutpost.com/2011/jun/13/willow-creek-child-survives-rabies/
I hope he pulls through too. But it is a very grave diagnosis. I think there have only been about a half dozen survivors in all of recorded history.
I have a copy of a film that was taken by British doctors in Iran in the 1950’s. It records the death of a shepherd who was bitten by a rabid wolf and was in full-blown rabies. He was literally foaming at the mouth as a dutiful nurse wiped it away with huge wads of cotton. She did not wear gloves. He would snap at her every time the cotton touched his lips. Eventually he stopped breathing and died.
Rabies is not to be trifled with. I hope the poor boy survives.
Thumbs up on your critique.
And mega prayers for the kid.
Congrats, dad, you’re a complete idiot.
Sad. I was bitten by a stray dog @ age 6 playing in the yard with my sister. Announcements on radio, ride in police car (first & last) and didn’t find the dog.
I had to have a tetnus shot and rabies shots. Alternated daily, stomach, arm, butt. Saturdays & Sundays. One day I decided I wasn’t going and my Mother had to chase me around the car and my little top got caught on the bushes and ripped. Yep, got my shot that day too.
A little boy had died the week before in Dallas from rabies and as bad as my parents hated seeing me get those shots, they knew they HAD to do it.
And yes, I still hate getting shots to this day or blood drawn but still do it when I have to.
Prayers for the little boy. Sad.
The parents are insane. Now their kid will likely die. I can’t believe they didn’t go for the shots.
Hyperbole much? Ebola, to my knowledge, is the deadliest virus known.
A person who is exposed and has never been vaccinated against rabies should get 4 doses of rabies vaccine - one dose right away, and additional doses on the 3rd, 7th, and 14th days. They should also get another shot called Rabies Immune Globulin at the same time as the first dose.
Cost will exceed 3,000.00
A local family was exposed and costs were over 10,000.00 each.
.
Shot(s) wouldn’t have helped, so give him some slack.
Del-Immune, and Garlic (smashed in his mouth to release the Alicin to his blood stream) would be his best hope.
Del-immune saved millions from radiation sickness when Chernobyl blew its cork. It really works. Garlic releases Alicin when chewed, which is the only substance known to destroy viri without killing the host. It has a very hot taste but does no harm to living tissues.
.
you don't ask....you DEMAND not to touch the bat...better yet, why have it around.
