Groundbreaking journalism that exposed decades old accusations of sexual harassment and sexual assault beginning with Harvey Weinstein has ended the careers of a growing list of powerful Hollywood men. In most cases, the only sympathy went towards women (and a few men) who were forced to swallow the shame of sordid deeds kept secret for years until they courageously came forward. As journos look for the next men to expose, some have wondered how far all this will go, or what happens when one of those men is adamant he didnt do it. After all, few of these stories have been accompanied by police reports, DNA evidence or criminal prosecutions.
After a storied 50 year career as actor and producer that includes two Oscars, Michael Douglas finds himself accused of something tawdry he said that he didnt do: masturbate in front of a former employee. Noticing too many of the recent stories could be best described as She Said, Hes Gone, Douglas was uncomfortable waiting to be the villain in a narrative crafted by either The Hollywood Reporter or Variety, two publications he said have reached out to possibly publish allegations involving an employee claiming something happened over 30 years ago, which he vehemently denies. Even though he understands he is inviting scrutiny by volunteering details that could harm his career if other women come forward with more accusations, Douglas felt strongly enough that he would prefer to have some control over the narrative, that he asked to tell Deadline his story. The accusation story will most likely follow elsewhere, but in this moment of she said, he said trial by journalism, it was never specified whose version had to be first. So here, Douglas states his case.

“Groundbreaking journalism that exposed decades old accusations of sexual harassment and sexual assault beginning with Harvey Weinstein has ended the careers of a growing list of powerful Hollywood men.”
That remains to be seen. Is Weinstein or any of the others going to pay any price other than a temporary public shunning?
Roman Polanski is still at large decades later and still gets awards and the applause of Hollywood.
Michael Douglas? Who next, Merv Griffin?
What?!
Never mind.....
Wow, he got old. Far from what I remember. Now I feel that much older.
I think women were pretty safe around Merv.
Apparently you haven’t seen Steve Martin’s “The Man With Two Brains.”

Drama · A computer specialist is sued for sexual harassment by a former lover turned boss who initiated the act forcefully, which threatens both his career and his personal life.
So maybe he didn’t get throat cancer from oral sex with a herpes-infected Catherine, after all?

The movie was OK but the Michael Crichton novel it was based on was better.
I haven’t seen it. What’s the catch?
Rumor has it that his father, Kirk Douglas, raped Natalie Wood when she was a young actress. The story has floated around for some time, without confirmation. Supposedly when the perpetrator dies Lana Wood will name the rapist.
That makes no sense. For one thing for it to be a credible accusation, since Natalie is dead and cant confirm or deny it, her daughter would need to have in her possession, some sort of proof, like a hand written letter or audio recording of her mother naming her rapist. And if she does have that, why wait until the rapist is dead? They dead cant lie, but they also cant defend themselves either.
Aren’t Kirk and Michael hardcore lefties?
It’s only rape if one of the elite defines it as so.
It’s only theft if one of the elite defines it as so.
It’s only obstruction of justice or collusion if one of the elite defines it as so.
It’s only a crime if one of the elite defines it as so.
It doesn’t matter the crime, as long as the elite say they’re going to ‘rehab’, everything is okay.
Who are we going to believe? Our lying eyes, video, pictures, and the verified testimonies and affidavits of credible witnesses, or what the elite say?
Along with millions of Americans, I’m sick of this crap.

One subplot of the movie is a serial killer going around killing women with injections of cleaning fluids in the butt. When Steve Martin catches the killer in an elevator, he turns out to be Merv Griffin.
“Groundbreaking journalism that exposed....”
Hilarious. I don’t recall any of Diddle-Gate being exposed by investigative journalism, ground breaking or not. The author give the game away with, “ ...if other women come forward with more accusations...” It’s women coming forward, not reporters digging. To paraphrase M.A.S.H’s bit ...
“I dragged the story out of her!”
“Dragged it out? How?”
“By listening!”
Democrats have been in office too long. Rather than dig up dirt on them, the press stayed silent so long, investigative journalism died except for a few tabloids. If it weren’t for the internet, Americans would be even more ignorant of what is going on in their country.
Michael Crichton’s stuff would be hard to improve on in any form.
Do you need that answered before deciding the morality of the case?
