I've been working on creating a set of fine arts videos, and this topic seemed appropriate for Twelfth Night. The song is the same arrangement we sang in high school, so good memories.

Deep thanks, Sans-Culotte. Two of the great loves of my life. (Other than husband and furries.)

I do all the ones I post, unless the post explicitly says someone else, which would be husband or one of the people I’ve taught. Basically, I’ve done over 700 music videos since 1986, and have taught a generation to make them.

Most of them are Literary Music Videos, which are based on lyrics, rather than on video. They’re storytelling videos that force a new interpretation of the story by the video context I use. Very academic. If you examine the underlying structure, they more resemble short stories in shape. They’re in a couple of books and I gave a talk on them to the MIT Media Lab.

The newest ones are just my playing around with slideshows, which I never used to do. But even those tend to tell stories, like the Wild Animals video or the Landscapes video. Even the President Trump video had an underlying story.

Trying to think of a few of the more complicated pieces. The problem is that the really complicated ones are assuming MASSIVE knowledge by the viewers because in the old days you could. Today's knowledge of a show is lighter. But this one might give you an idea of what I mean by SHAPE and, anyway, it's a lovely song you probably haven't heard.

Julia Ecklar's "Weary World is done from Blakes POV, but the weary world becomes Avon after the music bridge, and the final scene is the killing of the Blake you've seen dead through the video.

Me, too! I was shocked to finally find it.

I’m looking now for a version of Cavalleria Rustica, the Easter hymn, that I also remember singing - He is risen, light divine conquers gloom. Let us sing Christ the lord’s wondrous story, he has rend’d the veil of the tomb Let us sing Christ today reigns in glory, he is risen, light divine conquers gloom.

But what I’m finding are operatic versions that aren’t the triumphant choral hymn arrangement I remember, and part of the reason to do the piece would be the memory of singing it. Frustrating. I believe our soloists are still alive (we graduated hs in 1962) so I’ve been thinking of emailing them and asking what they remember of the arrangement.

Absolutely Gorgeous! It looks like you have a whole host of fine-art videos I knew nothing about so I’ve got a lot of grazing to do.

While I’m afraid the music was unfamiliar to me it captured the mood of the images perfectly. I would ask if you’re familiar with the work of Eric Whitacre? One of my favorite pieces from him is “Lux Aurumque. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7o7BrlbaDs Listen for the sopranos to come in at the 3’25” mark with a high E and hold the note to the end of the piece. Pure genius !

One other piece that I just discovered a few weeks ago is “Hymn of the Cherubim” by Tchaikovsky. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZQzW_QfPew Magnificent!

Finally, Eric Whitacre’s grand experiment combining an 8409 voice virtual choir with an EDM musical accompaniment.

I am SO pleased you liked it. I usually make a video in a day. I took 3 here to get the rhythm of the moves. First time I’ve tried starting and ending the moves on a significant note.

My personal favorite is still the Daily Mail art video.

That’s the one I play over and over again for myself.

I have so many Playlists trying to organize things reasonably and then see yet another way to slice and can’t resist. Some lists are edited from larger lists to remove videos inappropriate to a FR audience. Saves me removing them from a list when I announce, and then putting them back in the next day.

I just woke up from falling asleep in Die Hard 2 so not up to checking out music tonight, but I’ll go thru them tomorrow. AND rewatch what I missed. Right now husband is going thru the 9th Symphony from Beethoven to see if we can glue together the chorus parts to make a fireworks video.

I’m also bashing my head against a wall to figure out what to go with French Impressionist. I was thinking of Charles Aznavour, but the words are too too. The song that tempts me most ends with the singer threatening suicide if his love doesn’t return in the spring, so I COULD always end with Van Gogh. I’m starting to look at Romeo and Juliet by Berlioz. Damnation of Faust just doesn’t fit Impressionism.

Oh! I was trying desperately to think what went with prehistoric art other than the theme for the Flintstones. Just realized that Simple Gifts probably would work. I used a set for Cadfael. Clearly I need to go to sleep.

I really am glad you liked it. Mary
