Depends on when he said it. If you rewatch the original (I mean the ORIGINAL, find the 4K restoration folks did from the 70mm prints, George has screwed with every home video release) you can see the story changed a LOT. There’s no way Luke and Leia were sibblings, his name actually was Darth, he wasn’t second in command of the Empire, and he probably wasn’t Luke’s dad. Sure going into the prequels George was all “it’s the story of Anakin”. Coming out of the first it was the story of the droids.
