We have a bad guy who is “bad”, because he has daddy issues. If he was a female he would have been a stripper at “Cantina Royale”.

As far as I remember only one Jedi thought Anakin was the chosen one, until Obi-wan called him that in Episode III. Nothing about Palpatine screamed Sith Lord until Episode III, to the characters in the movie. The Jedi actual acted on the side of good for the Republic, because of the actions of Count Dooku and the manipulation of the Trade Federation. It was pretty straightforward and simple.

Now we have a Star Wars that has way too many unanswered questions and huge “leaps of faith” cause “reasons”. Rian Johnson has managed to outdo the ridiculousness of the mitichlorian disaster, by having anyone have force powers, and be able to master them without training (something Abrams pushed the envelope with in TFA).

No, Ren is bad because he's bad. A big part of what happens in LJ is Ren throws away all the excuses he had. At the end of FA it was daddy issues and Snoke, now he's bad by choice. He killed Snoke and saw his chance to take over the First Order and said "yep, that's what I want". Everybody in the prequels thought Anakins was the Chosen One. That's why Qui-Gon bought him. End of Ep 1: "He is the Chosen One… He will…bring balance… Train him." ―Qui-Gon Jinn's last words, to Obi-Wan Kenobi The Ep 3 thing was Ben finally doing the math and figuring out what bringing balance actually meant. The Jedi didn't act on the side of good for the Republic. The Jedi were too stupid to actually do some investigation and figured out the same guy was running both sides of the war. They were pushed around like pawns. Unanswered questions are good for story telling. Especially if you're in the middle of a trilogy. Anybody CAN have Force powers, and they CAN do things with them without training. Most of Jedi training is teaching that you can do whatever you want with the Force, and then teaching you not to do much of anything. Luke had like 10 minutes worth of training in SW and was able to blow up the Death Star with it, and Force grab his lightsaber in the beginning of Empire.
