Police were called to the scene, along the 1800 block of 7th Avenue just before noon on December 31.
Neighbors said they saw the man purchasing liquor yesterday. The unidentified man, according to police, was homeless.

Should’ah propped him up with the dog from Ohio
That’s awful. The poor man.
Sad. RIP.
As awful as it sounds at least he was drunk, he just fell asleep with no clue what was about to happen to him.
I hope this lost soul is resting in Jesus's arms now.
Hillbilly version of “Weekend at Bernies.”
Sorry, totally inappropriate.

I come here to see what you guys will say next...and you say it.
That’s sad. Many alcoholics won’t go to shelters since they can’t follow the rules.
It is awful. Skypilot and I were just discussing this passage a couple of days ago. Granted this seems to be about feeding the destitute, but FWIW:
Luke 16:19-31 King James Version
19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house:
28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
“Thats sad. Many alcoholics wont go to shelters since they cant follow the rules.”
That is true but you telling me on nights cold like last night the Charleston Police could not have taken Otis Campbell down to the drunk tank till morning?
I would hope they would have, if they had seen him or gotten a call in time.
Are they expected to save all the homeless by locking them up for their protection on cold nights?
They could probably spent all their time doing that and pack the place out.
And if the guy refuses to go, they can't force him.
It's unfortunate that this happened, but there are usually places for them to go but as was said before, they don't want the obligation that comes with it so take their chances.
Happy we dont disappoint.
I feel a lot worse for the dog.
“Are they expected to save all the homeless by locking them up for their protection on cold nights?”
We did it in the past why not? Besides we find homes for Syrian rapefugees we can sure has hell have a drunk tank again.
Maybe he forgot to drink it?
Correct. Pooch didnt know any better before it was shut out. Thought it was his job.
They’ll only go if they can drink. BTDT
