I'm not good at movie reviews and never claimed to be.
But I know what I like.
Vince Vaughn just proved himself a serious actor.
The first 15 or 20 minutes are a waste of time but once he is in prison, the fun begins.
The protagonist, Bradley Thomas (Vince Vaughn), is a reticent killer who is forced to do what he does best...break limps and crack skulls.
This is a cheap-ass film (it cost me $0.99 for 48 hours streaming at Amazon). That said, it is a first rate grindhouse drama.
And Vince Vaughn is now a serious actor.
On a more serious note, this film is excellent at character development (of the star Vince Vaughn). Great story telling and lots of justice of the bone cracking kind.
Thanks, I have it on my Amazon watchlist.
Vince Vaughn is excellent. Very little dialogue...lot's of action.
The main character, Bradley Thomas (Vince Vaughn) is obvious well trained. He is a complete professional but there is no backstory given in the film as to his training.
Beautiful character development for those of you who are writers.
It’s not for everyone, but at 99 cents it is great for those who like this dark genre.
He was in ‘The Cell’ in the early 2000’s...............
As long as we are reviewing movies, I watched It Comes at Night last weekend. Another post-apocalyptic survivalist flick but poses an interesting dilemma: Do you allow other people to join your survivalist camp, or do you kill them?
The answer is not straightforward, as the movie illustrates.
PS - I have no idea what the title has to do with the movie other than to give it a scary title.
Will check it out. Thx.
I would never watchband movie about someone breaking limps!
Does he steal their parking placard too?
Sounds awful...
I’m so glad you posted this!
I’ve seen the movie a hundred times on Prime and wasn’t sure whether or not to watch it.
Now I will.
Once he spoke out in support of guns, I knew right then and there he was going to have trouble getting roles.
We should support the good guys (who I can count on one hand) by even watching their movies on amazon, etc.
He was the ONLY A list actor I knew who was conservative. Now I can’t think of one.
I watched “The Case for Christ” and it gave me some info I didn’t know about the resurrection. It was pretty good.
So.. an Orthopedic therapist?
Who else "breaks limps"?
I watched “Hacksaw Ridge” a couple of days ago. Vince Vaughn was cast as a hard as nails drill sergeant and platoon leader. I thought he was miscast, but he gave a great performance...
I really liked that movie. I bet Tarantino is jealous.
Please forgive the poor soul. Jut another victim of Autospell.
Thx for the reference to “It Comes at Night.” Will watch that soon.
It shows what an American man will do to protect his wife and family.
He won't just kill.
He'll smash skulls...and then pray about it.
The description seems contradictory;
“Beautiful character development”
“No back story”.
I suppose you mean, “Accept that the story begins with certain facts being as they now appear. Turning that page, let’s move on into the next moment yet to be lived out.”
The primary focus is on the present action rationalized by future intentions.
And I don't think he is doing it for the money.
He is doing it for the art of it.
The story begins with a character (Vince Vaughn, the lead), who is poorly defined (amorphously defined).
As the story moves forward, he begins to be defined.
As the story keeps moving forward, he becomes well-define...and emerges as the hero.
How is this out of step with character development in a movie or a written story.
It is a somewhat novel approach, granted, but it is still a solid character development process.
Horrible. Boring. Couldnt make it past 30 minutes, sorry to say.
The good stuff starts later.
