When I was going to school in North Chicago and one January night 4 of us decided to take a ride to Milwaukee. On the way back, around 2am, we broke down. A couple of the guys wanted to go to sleep and look for help in the morning but it was so cold I said if we went to sleep nobody was going to wake up. So we started walking. 3 or 4 cars passed us and nobody stopped to offer help. After a mile or two we came to an exit that had an all night truck stop. As we were walking up the exit ramp a Wisconson State Patrol passed us and even he didn’t bother stopping. When we got inside the coffee shop they gave us blankets. I started shaking so badly and I couldn’t stop myself. It felt like my eyelashes were even shaking, it was so bad. I was convinced the people at the truck stop saved our lives. I vowed never to live in a place where you needed survival gear to go out for a gallon of milk in the winter.
Wow, I’m in Grand County at 7,700 feet and we are 27! Of course we went to 3 last night.
Had about 2 inches to shovel.
