WASHINGTON Since the change was made to use District of Columbia on D.C. licenses and ID cards, there have been reports of people having their IDs authenticity questioned in airport security screening lines.
A recent instance of this occurred after Thanksgiving, as a D.C. resident tried to catch a flight out of Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, according to D.C. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton. Her office said the traveler almost missed their flight after officers discussed whether or not the license was valid before eventually letting them through.
Norton sent a letter Wednesday to David Pekoske, administrator of the Transportation Security Administration, about the latest incident.
As I am sure you can imagine, it can be humiliating for a U.S. citizen to be delayed because a federal government employee does not recognize the name of the District of Columbia, Norton said in the letter.
Norton referenced that this wasnt the first time she has presented the issue to the TSA, and her office said two previous administrators she contacted implemented additional training for officers in recognizing D.C. IDs.
Norton requested that Pekoske take similar action as his predecessors and any additional steps that can be taken to stop what she called the chronic inability of Transportation Security officers to recognize District of Columbia licenses and IDs.
WTOP has reached out to the TSA for comment.
They know that any Demoncrap-run city is likely to have high levels of fraud, that’s all.
I know where Washington, D.C. is.
The country of Columbia has several districts. Travelers from that country should have ID identifying the specific district that they are from.
Tell that to the New Mexico resident who tried to buy tickets to the Atlanta Olympics. He was told he had to order tickets from the Mexican Olympic Committee. “New Mexico, Old Mexico, it’s all the same”.
When I worked in an office that dealt with a lot of vendors over the phone and gave our address as ‘Washington, DC’, quite a few people asked me what state that was in.
A lot of public schools don’t teach geography.
There are so many things that they don’t teach anymore, one wonders what they DO teach.
“The country of Columbia has several districts.”
It’s actually Colombia. (just learned that myself in the past few months)
Remember, after 9-11, Dems in Congress insisted TSA folks needed to be made federal employees to better keep us safe.
Thanks for the correction. I always did have problems with Jeb’s wife’s name.
We had an intern in the office once who insisted that Alaska was south of the continental US. She said it was on the map. Turns out in her classroom Alaska was depicted thus:
Good. Gad.
I still hear people here say Texas is the “biggest state” in the union.
