Oh yeah, they get a nice cornicione, the edge rise, at Antico. Giovanni knows what hes doing.
Then will Italians not be able to eat pasta, because it’s cultural appropriation from the Chinese? And no tomatoes, because it’s cultural appropriation from Native Americans?
Vafanc*lo! At last the UN does something worthwhile... Recognizing the greatest pizza in the world!
(just kidding with some authentic Eye-talian cussing)
FUUN
Used to have to go to mulberry street or E.Harlem to get real Napolitano pizza or my home turf Arthur Avenue in the Bronx. But the cumpari moved out of the city. Now the best pizza is in the burbs like Long Island, Westchester Jersey lower Connecticut.
Doesnt matter. I cant eat it anymore anyway (not without days of pain).
My dad used to say. Enjoy that while you can youd be surprised what you cant eat as you get old. And I was surprised.
BTW for a change of pace on rare occasions I would order a Sicilian pie. Which has its own charm.
But the UN? They can mangia u gatz ( u casso)
Thank you for the new word. I didn't know there was a term for this specific part on a slice of heaven, but the good folks at Monaco's do know how to produce a terrific, almost buttery cornicione.
My lady friend likes to rip it off "my" pizza and dip it into the mussels and garlic sauce that she orders for herself. Can't say I blame her. But it is annoying.
The things we tolerate in the name of love...
LOL.
I was in Naples (il vero Napoli) 4 years. Best of the best. When I moved to Brooklyn I was shocked that a restaurant owned by chassidic Jews opened up boasting Italian-style and got it absolutely spot-on, without the Neopolitan ingredients/produce of course...
(Basil restaurant on Kingston and Lincoln... Kosher!)
My mother used to make home made Sicilian pies.
they were GREAT!!!
You’re paesano too? :) Didn’t know.
Eye-talian :)
Last time I heard that was from some black guy in Manhattan.
It was in a derogatory way. Who says blacks aren’t racist.
EYE-talian lives matter!!! :)
mangia u gatz :)
Heard and used that word many, many times in my 49 years.
Among others :)
Is there a fake one? Besides Florida :)
In my 68 I probably said it proportionally as much. Though after moving out of the Bronx for the burbs 50 something years ago, it might be less.
Exactly. I was making a distinction from Naples, FL.
