Why, thats islam isnt it?
Honestly, I don't think Islam even tries to control its violence. However, I may be wrong.
Still furious about 9/11. I don't think anyone who was an adult and saw innocent people jumping to their deaths or dying in a collapsing inferno will really ever forgive this.
I am a Christian, and Jesus Christ would ask us to forgive, but this one is pretty big and hard to forgive/forget.
Then just when you seem to feel better, there are videos of innocents being beheaded or lowered, in a cage, into water. Or burned alive. Or gay people being thrown off of high buildings. I could go on ...
What???? Unpossible.
In any time when people perceive injustice in the law, these stories surface.
Before it was the mob, it was Tammany Hall, and before that the Liberty Boys.
Back when the Weimar Republic was losing its grip, you had "Threepenny Opera" (Bert Brecht being his usual subversive self) and "M" (the amazing movie with Peter Lorre as the child murderer that the police can't catch, so the underworld goes about it).
As far back as the Roman Empire and the Norse Edda, people wrestled with this idea of alternative justice. The Greeks probably did too but "Antigone" is not quite on point.
Old hat reworked as if it is something new. No perspective.
Sonny: “Hey, listen, I want somebody good - and I mean very good - to plant that gun. I don’t want my brother coming out of that toilet with just his dick in his hands, alright?
I am not an expert, but I am betting that once you are in the Mob, it is practically impossible to get out.
At least Michael was a war hero; members of the Mob, though violent killers, were actually patriotic.
There was a great documentary series on the Discovery Channel, I think, called “The Making of the Mob.” Narrated by Ray Liotta. Definitely worth watching. Lots of history; very well made.
LOL, literally! Gosh, I could watch this movie this afternoon if I could.
Any FReepers who haven't seen this movie really should. It is an important part of American cultural history.
I will look for III..it must be on Netflix.
In II, I felt so bad when that one person (don’t want to give away spoilers) was killed on ... well, you know. ;)
Okay, taking the afternoon off work to watch III. ;) Suddenly caught a bad case of the stomach flu. Wouldn’t want to spread it around. ;)

In my lifetime there are only 3 movies I watch over and over. The Godfather, Jaws and Running Scared.
The real Mob was quite patriotic, especially in World War 2. I've read stories that the New Jersey Mob went to the government and offered to ensure the security of the waterfront in NY and NJ. How true these stories are, I'm not sure, but it makes perfect sense, IMHO.
That is me on FR.
Just when I thought I could ignore politics the leftist kooks drag me back into it.
Find “Brotherhood of the Bell”.
Bet you can’t watch it just once. :-)
“leave the gun....take the cannolies”
Supposedly that line was ad-libbed (the cannolis part, that is).
Hey George Will, I’ve got your “sparkling aperçus” right here (whatever the hell that is)!
The appeal lies in the contrast between two unsavory classes...gangsters and government. They both are doing the same crimes except one is doing so under the color of law.The other is saying shove your law....like prohibition. I root for the contrarians in this scenario because they leave the public at large the hell alone.
My favorite lines was Clemenza’s cooking lesson.
“Come over here, kid, learn something.”
The Godfather Trilogy are among my all-time favorite movies and I still watch them all the way through.
The Master forgave those who ASKED for forgiveness. Repentance is the #1 requirement. Luke 13:3 & 5
As I understand it Clemenza (Richard S. Castellano) was written out of II after not being able to come to contract terms.
