An incredible image of Antarctic ice mountains shaped like sugar cubes has won a prestigious science photography competition.

The Royal Society Publishing photography competition celebrates the power of photography to demonstrate the beauty of nature and science.

Polar ecologist Professor Peter Convey took this year's overall winning shot during work with the Cambridge-based British Antarctic Survey.

It was commended by the judging panel for its skill in capturing the sheer scale of the icy continent.

Another older article from Daily Mail. GIFS as art.

Gif-enchy! Photographer elevates moving images to an artform and now makes advertising campaigns for the likes of L'Oréal and Hermès

I will try to create two ping lists, though I don’t guarantee success. The articles I collect tend to be from Daily Mail. Let me know if you want to be on either.

Photography - including landscapes and photographs as an art form

Fine Arts - Everything from antique to modern

The article had an incorrect caption for the polar bear picture. It should have read “ Trapped on an ice floe broken off from the ever shrinking main body of sea ice, a desperate and melancholy polar bear stares at his own reflection and thinks of happier times before Donald Trump became President of the U.S.A., and contemplates the destructive effects of humans and the climate change they cause.” That would have won first prize.

Wonderful! Thank you.

No time right now for more in-depth commentary but the gifs are pure genius.

Should I put you on both or just photography?

Oh, I’m so relieved that you liked the gifs. I thought they were art but I wasn’t sure if people really into photography would think them bastardization. I was searching for the original set that I used to keep open in a firefox tab before the window crashed when I came across this set. I was SURE the first set must be in one of my lists but I can’t find it yet. It was the same idea but that first set simply took over my mind. I HAVE to find it in Daily Mail.

I screwed up. After reading your post in “my comments”, without looking at the article again I searched for the DM source by using tineye and found the page that, it turns out you already linked to in your article. Oops.
