Irony. Theres so little of it in the world. When its encountered it should be sipped slowly and savored like a fine Scotch whisky.

And that is why I no longer go into the ocean. Last time I was at my nearest beach of New Smyrna Fl there was a 5 Ft shark swimming very close to shore.

sorry for her, but being in areas of water known for having sharks is quite foolish.

Going swimming or scuba diving in the ocean is jumping right into the food chain. I don’t do it anymore but loved it for many years. Old family friends living at the coast who own a large ocean-going fishing boat always told us we wouldn’t be in there if we knew what was swimming around our feet. After having what felt like a few close calls, I finally understood what they meant. I don’t go past knee deep anymore.

What kind of diving instructor would go into shark-infested waters?

She was Indian, not American. And on the positive side, an American can replace her in that job in NYC.

I am an educated, world-traveled, veteran SCUBA diver with maybe a thousand dives under my belt... And I frankly do not understand most of the posts on this thread. Curry? When did FR become a forum for this sort of sad stuff?

A sad story. The saddest thing is that she was apparently not married and was childless. But she had a job in investment banking, made lots of money, led an exciting NYC lifestyle and took exotic vacations. A new age American ....

Big money, middle age while chasing after waning youth by engaging in dangerous sports seem to be a thing. I’ll stick with the safer cheap thrills.

Very sad, I blame the company that did not provide security for the divers. Stay away from banana republics.
