I like the way that Dmitri cues Dutoit at the end using his hand to indicate that he's ready to move on from the fermata.

Peter Schickele once said that the opposite of "opera seria" was "opera funnia." This aria is one of the monuments of opera funnia.

In 1978 CBS broadcast an afternoon of opera on a Sunday with Danny Kaye hosting, and I laughed so hard I almost peed myself. Robert Merrill sang this aria, and he introduced a New York element by executing a Bronx whistle and yelling, "Yo, Figaro!" It was classic!

I'm going to miss Dmitri because his work with lieder was the best that Russian had.
