What do all the latest batch of sex allegations have in common? Maleness? No. It’s power. Persons who thought their positions of power, in one sense or another, gave them an excuse to take, and protection from consequence of taking, sexual advantage over someone. That relationship kind of power is just like wealth, and the rich man getting into heaven or not. It’s not the wealth or the power (or the “maleness”). It’s the desire and temptation to give into a desire instead of rejecting the temptation and the desire.
The problem with the article is not just the falseness of the argument in the article, but the falseness of what they are trying to claim to be the data. What percent of the total male population do the alleged male perpetrators in the latest sex allegations represent? Less than one tenth of one percent I’d guess. Yet the author of the article wants to pretend that ALL men - ALL men - are like all those men recently alleged to be perpetrators of sexual abuse.
Meanwhile, they also ignore, in another area, our schools, where female educators are increasing as a percentage of educators accused of sexual abuse of some student or students; and I don’t think it’s merely better reporting that is making it appear to be showing that increase. I don’t think the author of the article wants to accuse those female educators of “maleness”.
