Sex and the City can still be saved — if Sia Furler has her way. Amid rumors that series star Kim Cattrall refused to sign on for a third movie for the HBO franchise, the Austrian singer-songwriter has expressed her displeasure over the scrapped Sex and the City 3 and is ready to take matters into her own hands. In an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple One radio, Sia even offered to take Cattrall’s place in Sex and the City 3.
“‘I was like, I’ll play Sam, like nobody cares!” Sia said. “Like they just want the movie. We just want to see another movie, please!”
Sia went to say she would risk the hate from diehard Sex and the City fans just to get the third movie made.
“I’ll take the bullet,” the singer said.
“ “I’ll take all the haters saying ‘she’s not Sam’, I don’t care. I just want to see the movie.” ” Kim Cattrall’s character, Samantha Jones, is known for her wild ways in the bedroom, and Sia says she already has experience in that department, too.
“I had a very promiscuous early 20s, I can do it!” Sia said.
There have been mixed feelings from fans regarding replacing Kim Cattrall or killing off the Samantha Jones character for SATC3. However, Cattrall herself told talk show host Piers Morgan she thinks she could easily be replaced.
“It’s a great part,” Cattrall told Morgan of her longtime Sex and the City role, according to Entertainment Weekly. “I played it past the finish line and then some, and I loved it. Another actress should play it — maybe they could make it an African-American Samantha Jones or a Hispanic Samantha Jones.”
Kim Cattrall also retweeted social media comments that suggested the Samantha Jones character should just be killed off.
But others close to the HBO production feel it is all or none when it comes to the Sex and the City cast, saying with no Kim Cattrall, there is no SATC3.
Sia has some acting experience, mostly doing voice work, and just like Samantha Jones, the singer is known for her many hairstyles. But at age 41, Sia is also substantially younger than Kim Cattrall, who turned 61 last August.
Even before it was confirmed that SATC3 was not happening, Sia offered up her services amid rumors that Cattrall was being “difficult” during contract negotiations. Shortly before Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker confirmed reports that a third movie in the franchise was not happening, Sia took to Twitter to explain how she could play the role of Samantha Jones.
“Ok. @wbpictures can I just play Samantha and we give the people more Sex and the City?” the singer tweeted in September. “We’ll just pretend I had lots of plastic surgery!”

I’ve never tried to be article monitor, but I have to ask why this tripe about a slut “like” wanting to play a “like” slut is on Free Republic? I made the mistake of watching the movie with my wife. I won’t look further though this thread. Pfft!
Sia may be better off putting that big white shaggy wig back on. She used to perform in a mushroom shaped wig that completely hid her face.
