HOUSTON -- A veteran who says he felt neglected by the U.S. Veteran Affairs Department has a reason to smile this Veteran's Day.
Dr. David Nguyen with URBN Dental in Houston says he first met David Harmon at the gym.
The former soldier told the dentist he was in need of serious dental work after being unable to get help from the V.A.
After some X-rays, Nguyen said he soon discovered the soldier needed $15,000 worth of periodontal work.

Sweet.
Nice to read some good news for a change. Thanks for posting this.
Looks good on the tax form under “Charity”.
Hey! Well done, Dr. Nguyen.
He can’t deduct free service given to an individual.
I think it was three years ago that I signed up with the Houston VA. Still haven’t heard from them.
Well done, Dr. Nguyen. Thank you.

Looks like I will be passing on my unofficial title of most cynical person here. <: <: <:
I appreciate the transfer of responsibility for this title.
However please as a former title holder chime in anytime as required. (The more the merrier!) :>)
Do you mean you never got an answer regarding your application?
I was told I qualified when I signed up. I’ve not heard anything since.
Thank God I have pretty good dental insurance. IF I get a certain amount of work done. So far they’ve paid more than the premiums. That may not be the case this year so I may cancel. But my dentist charges about half of what others charge. That’s why my costs may be less than the premiums. Of course, totally free VA would be best.
.
Dental insurance is a joke
Vietnamese dentist————nice.
.
Good catch.
As being of Vietnamese ancestry, Dr Nguyen was probably told by his parents of American soldier’s sacrifices
Just call and make an appointment. You may need to be assigned a Primary Care person first and if you need dental work ask him/her.
I'm not qualified for free dental or free eyeglasses but I get plenty of care from the other clinics: primary care, audiology (new hearing aids every 4 years), urology, dermatology, and cardiology (where I'll get a new pacemaker when my battery runs low).
Writer takes a lot of ‘liberty’s with the facts!
Nice heart by the dentist.
Dental Care under V.A. is somewhat limited and conditional.
My PCP has to refer me to a dentist and that gets me in? Thanks. I’m seeing her on Tuesday.
Wonder if he’s related to Dr. Nguyen in Tulsa? He and his partners are the least expensive dentists in Oklahoma, and they do GREAT work. He has family in Houston, most of whom are doctors or dentists.
Ive been taking my dad to the VA as needed and when an issue came up with a tooth, the VA explained that they only see you if its a life threatening situation. Oddest thing I ever heard. Suffice to say my 94 year old dad has received no dental care from the VA. Love how a WWII vet is treated....
