Former ‘Mad Men’ Writer Accuses Matthew Weiner Of Sexual Harassment

Former Mad Men writer Kater Gordon has accused series creator Matthew Weiner of sexual harassment for a comment he made to her in 2008 when she was working on the show.

Gordon, who was 27 at the time, alleges that Weiner told her that she owed it to him to let him see her naked, according to a report posted Thursday on The Information. Gordon told the website her confidence was shaken by the incident and she hasn’t worked in television since.

Weiner made the alleged comment late one night when they were working on a script for that season’s finale, Gordon told the site. She was fired a year later, which prompted media to speculate on the reasons, since she had just shared an Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series Emmy in 2009 with Weiner.

“I had the Emmy, but instead of being able to use that as a launch pad for the rest of my career, it became an anchor because I felt I had to answer to speculative stories in the press,” she told The Information. “I eventually walked away instead of fighting back.”

Gordon said at the time of the incident, she froze but tried to brush off the comment. The two continued to work together that night to finish writing the episode.

In response to the allegation, a rep for Weiner told The Information, “Mr. Weiner spent eight to ten hours a day writing dialogue aloud with Miss Gordon, who started on Mad Men as his writers assistant. He does not remember saying this comment nor does it reflect a comment he would say to any colleague.”

Weiner is currently in production on his new series The Romanoffs at Amazon, whose head Roy Price recently resigned over sexual harassment allegations. The Romanoffs was originally a co-production with Amazon and The Weinstein Company, but is now produced solely by Amazon after the streaming company severed ties with TWC in the wake of the sexual harassment scandal against Harvey Weinstein. Amazon declined comment on the sexual harassment allegations against Weiner.

When Gordon began working on the show, she would transcribe Weiner’s writing, which he famously dictates, in addition to doing research for the writers and compiling outlines of scripts, but she also was encouraged to pitch ideas, she said. “I felt excited to be able to be so close to making what I thought at the time was such a great show. And he championed me. It was extremely satisfying,” she said.

Gordon, who now lives in the Bay Area, began her TV career as a personal assistant to Weiner, then was promoted to Weiner’s writing assistant and eventually staff writer. She says the Weiner incident has inspired her to launch Modern Alliance, a nonprofit organization aimed at changing perceptions around sexual harassment.

"...Weiner told her that she owed it to him to let him see her naked..."

I could understand wanting to see her naked.

Was it wrong of me to admit that?

For one joke?
Wow.

I see a new series of successful cable shows.
Robot-Wives of Beverly Hills.
It won’t just be something going on in Japan.

Was it awkward flirting or serious trolling? How often did it happen? Did she tell anyone?

If her career is a wreck, there probably is more blame on her decisions than his forceful pressure.

Wait. An untoward offhand remark possibly said in jest while writing a script for a very adult television show radically alters this woman’s entire life?

We may have found the ultimate snowflake.

Lord, this is getting ridiculous. Was she such a snowflake she couldn’t fire back, in your dreams and let it go.

Some of these men deserve to be called out and prosecuted from what we’re told but some of the tales are stupid.

If I had reported, cried or stressed over the small stuff I would have never survived 50 years in the work force. The big stuff had me walking out a door in minutes. Both times with a stop at the President of the Company’s door on the way out.

As far as I am concerned, all women owe it to me to let me see them naked.

You might want to phrase that differently

I might be mistaken, but I believe that’s the credo on Laz’s family crest.

“What is it with guys with the last name of Weiner?”

It’s not a name, it’s a description....

There is no doubt in my mind that this snowflake broad calls herself “strong”every 15 minutes or so. Guy SAID something to her. Make a decision to ignore it or straighten him out, that’s what a damn guy would do

It’s like Ron White said.

you want to see the rest of them naked.”

This is stupid.

A comment like that happens what... a 100,000 times a day?

Men are supposed to never say anything to women, I guess.

There place is to be seen and not heard.

This becomes ridiculous.

I said it before across multiple Weinstein (and now Spacey...and now Jesse Jackson..and now Mad Men people) articles, so I apologize for the repetition. However, I feel strongly that this is a golden opportunity to not "let a serious crisis go to waste." Except here, we're not being slimy collectivists, but upright citizens.

Mind you, I really do not like the idea of using the behavior of dirtbags and the tears of actresses/the misfortune of an innocent as a weapon against an enemy (to quote another Freeper). Real men would take these losers out back and beat some sense into them. I am also a free market capitalist and I don't want to regulate anything unless it is in line with the intent of the Founders.

All that said, we're dealing with the lowest of the low. If the Republicans had any sense of testicular fortitude - or a desire to MAGA for ALL individuals - they'd call a press conference and say:

"Democrats are clearly pro-misogyny. Silence equals consent. They said nothing while one of their fundraisers roamed as a sexual predator in Hollywood. And now a former presidential candidate looks like he cut from the same cloth.

"It is sad that the loudest Democrat since this story broke has been Hillary Clinton, as she acknowledged that the Oval Office has seen a sexual predator - her husband.

"The Republican leadership asks the Democrats to reject harboring of anti-woman fundraisers, and join us as we announce the start of hearings on the civil rights of individuals amidst this poisonous atmosphere in Hollywood, with an eye toward regulating studios and actors and actresses under the Commerce Clause as so many Democrats have with other parts of the economy."

Others have noted that the Republicans likely have skeletons in their closet and there is a risk in this approach. I agree, but maybe it's time to man-up and clean the Augean Stables. Frankly, I don't care if it's Hollywood or Wall Street or Main Street or K Street...this isn't the way real men act.

Yes, some people may have not spoken out for a variety of reasons. Nobody knows what is in the heart of mankind. I will not be the first one to cast a stone, and based on some of my readings, there is a lot of internal sorrow going around nowadays. That, to me, is enough punishment but the good news is, there is always room for forgiveness FOR THOSE WHO SEEK IT WITH CONTRITION.

All that said, there is always love, but there is also justice. Many of us need to step up - the time to act is upon us. From Moses to St Joseph to men of fidelity throughout history, now is the time for Deplorables to reclaim the mantle of "compassion" from the statists, and expose their War on Women. Who among us is willing to put thought into action, and in our daily lives when we encounter even a modicum of this behavior, to speak out forcefully?

With the stuff they wrote for the Mad men series?
Series?
She was harassed by one who she knew, and helps write sleazy script with tons of 60’s style sexism.

Man, I loved that show.
