NEWARK, OH (WCMH) — Newark police say a man from Wisconsin has been charged with kidnapping after he traveled to Ohio to meet a 12-year-old girl he met online.

According to the Newark Division of Police, at about 6:30pm, Monday, officers were called to the 600 block of W. Main Street on the report of a missing person.

Family members told police a 12-year-old girl had left the residence between 3:00 and 3:30pm to go on a bike ride, but never returned home. This was an odd behavior for the girl, according to her family, who always came home on time.

It is not obvious from the article that a kidnapping took place. If it’s “just” molestation or statutory rape, I hope he will still get the maximum legal penalty. However, I want the letter of the law applied - no kidnapping charge if the little girl went willingly and stayed willingly.

A twelve year old is not capable of adult consent.

It’s kidnapping and/or statutory rape, depending.

He needs to be rendered incapable, if you get my drift.

THEN jailed for the rest of his sorry life.

Certainly the child is not capable of consent for sex. That one would be statutory rape. As for kidnapping, that would depend on state law, I assume. I don’t like it, but the letter of the law may not cover that pervert’s actions.

Two 13 year old girls were murdered in Delphi, Indiana, on Valentine’s Day this year and the case remains unsolved. I wonder if it was this guy.

Secondary point - snoop through your kid’s devices so you know what they are really doing - better to have them mad at you than dead or molested...

my sister thinks I’m some kind of paranoid freak for not plastering my kid’s pics all over facebook.

You can look up most any address on a given State’s sex offender website and find some within 10 miles. Granted, some are situations like 19 yo boy with 17 yo girlfriend or a guy peeing someplace where he thought there was no one around but still, there’s a lot of bonafide pervs in the world too.
