I make a Chinese recipe called Smoky Hot Scallops my wife loves. I do slice up the Habaneros into rings so she can pick them out of her serving. Np problem as long as she can see them. They have made the sauce plenty hot already.
i have a brother that always makes comments about my peppers and burning at the nether ends. Maybe he and others do have that issue.
Never for me, only from excessively fatty or acidic food. As mentioned, southern cooking with lard cooked into everything destroyed my GI tract.
