Who supports beating children?? Spanking is not beating. And what black people do to their children is horrific. An ordinary New Yorker can witness this stuff on the streets every day if he looks hard enough. Bill Cosby spoke out about this for years until he was taken down.

"Where are all the FReepers who support beating children now?"

Ah, the call for fond memories of those colorful threats from our mothers in the 1960s! Your wish is granted.

* Someone's mom said, "I'm going to beat you black and blue!"

* Someone's mom said, "I'm going to beat you to death!"

* Someone's mom said, "I'm going to kill you!"

* Someone's mom said, "I'm going to skin you alive!"

* Someone's mom said, "I'm going to tan your hide!"

* Someone's mom said, "I'm going to wring your neck!"

* Someone's mom said, "I'm going to tear you limb from limb!"

Ah. Dear moms. ;-)

Granted, none of the moms followed through on their threats. Our dads spanked us on the very few, very early life occasions that we were really bad and swatted us on our behinds with their hands or their wide belts with more bark (or doubled belt slapping noise) than bite. No welts or lasting pain and often a tear in Dad's eye as he explained the crime and punishment.

Nowadays, though, too many moms murder their kids with no warnings in advance, dads having previously been driven away.

ALL hitting of children causes lower IQ, lower achievement, more criminality, alienation from parents, and many other forms of dysfunction.

ALL hitting of children, of any severity, including the kind that people rationalize as “spanking.”

Yours is not a Biblical position, not a conservative position, not a pro-family position. You’re on the side of Dr Spock (no rules, let the world teach your children, no discipline). And I say this as someone who barely used corporal punishment.

All the usual knee-jerk defenses of hitting children.

Isn’t it funny how hitting LITTLE people is supposed to be Biblical and godly, and then when they get to be a certain size, it’s “violence,” and assault and battery?

There is NO level of violence against children that is beneficial. There is no REAL distinction between spanking and beating. It’s a purely verbal distinction, and it’s all a rationalization for being bereft of intelligence.

And while we’re being “biblical,” why are you using electricity?

Actually, the governing authorities can use reasonable force for correction. Police can use force to subdue someone who is not in compliance.

Parents are the primary governing authorities for their children. Reasonable corporal punishment has long been accepted under Anglo-American law. It should be a last resort, but it completely appropriate under the right circumstances.

Awww, an anti-Christian bigot. Say what you want about Biblical guidelines for the family. We are in a conservative forum. You can ridicule all you want, but all it does is paint a picture of who you really are.

You come across as a social worker.
