Tom Brady, in the course of throwing a pick-six to Robert Alford of the Falcons in the second quarter of Super Bowl LI, had grown old.

And the Falcons became Super Bowl LI Champions of the First Half

Brady can still throw it and, although they pretend to try, QBs don't tackle those that pick them off. George Blanda was around 46 before he retired, although admittedly he mostly kicked, he did play some at QB when the need arose.

Tom Brady rarely gets hit or sacked, he rarely scrambles, and the Pats never give him plays where he runs the ball.

The brutal, knee-smashnig, concussion-causing game of football is an entirely different game for him.

His value is in his judgement and ever-increasing experience in the game, not his athletic ability.

Brady's longevity is impressive, but in my humble opinion it pales in comparison to this guy, legendary hockey star Jaromir Jagr:

He made his debut in the National Hockey League in 1990, and he just started his 27th season of professional hockey at the age of 45. I'd suggest hockey is a much more difficult game for anyone to play, and to do it at that age is beyond outlandish.

P.S. -- He has worn #68 for his entire career, in honor of his grandfather who died in a Czechoslovakian prison during the Prague Spring uprising of 1968.

If a QB falls in the forest with no one around, does he make a sound?

This article really tested me. The first half reads like it was written by a pair of homos. But the last quarter or so gives Brady his due.

Long long read. Why couldn’t you have just excerpted it?

He’ll be the healthiest guy wandering around his own neighborhood trying to remember which house is his.

Brady will play until he can play no more. Then he will sign with the Cardinals.

Is that an accurate portrait of Brady or have they taken liscence for effect? I’d be shocked if he really looked that bad. He’s only 40.

The oldest story in sports is not an athlete dying young. The oldest story in sports is an athlete getting old and playing past his prime, somehow hoping to avoid the inevitable.

________

The oldest story in sports is the fact that most men (playing a sport at a high level) never understand how to adapt their skills to the game as they get older. Their ego most often disallows this.

Example: If a power hitter could get it into hid=s head that he now had only "warning track power" he would wisely cut down on his swing and be more successful.

It's all so true. Most players at a high level could go on much longer if they accepted that their reactions and speed had become limited over the years.

I could go on and on with this. I talked to W. Stargell about this years ago.

He finally began to understand that he could and just should lay off some of that Steve Carlton slider crap that made him look so silly at times.

The older wiser players can go on and on if they truly understand how their physical reactions have been altered with age.

****

Brady may be able to play until he's an old coot.

God bless him.

But ..... here from Pittsburgh and Steeler country ........ I hope his effectiveness diminishes at least a little sooner rather than later.

Thank You for posting this.

I have been a Patriots fan for many years and was for years a season ticket holder.

I no longer watch the NFL because of this insanity that the owners are allowing. Funny, I do not really miss it as I thought that I might.

I have not clicked onto any ESPN link in years and I never shall knowingly do so. Let you get it. Reading this article was I suppose an example of some weaning process but I never would have read it unless posted here. I wonder if you knew that somehow about many of us.

Anyhow, regards.
