Foot ball is gone. But, I can help you with the cat. Get another cat - right away. Mourning and a grieving period is for deceased spouses. And, usually that is too long anyway. But cats? Two weeks, max.

I have a half Siamese, half Russian something-or-other. She is so very affectionate and loving and has the Siamese talk but she talks all night long. Wakes me up once or twice per night to get pets and attention or to get me to lift up the covers so she can crawl in. I wouldn't mind a full night's sleep sometime but I wouldn't trade her for the world.
Abyssinian beats Siamese Hands down. Have had both. Siamese are great, but Abyssinian beats the pants off of them. Much more intelligent, MUCH quieter, as loyal as the best dog you ever had, and love to play fetch (Paper wads).
Cat people or dog people need to get another cat or dog when their cat or dog dies.
The quicker they do that, the better they will be.
