Shortly after the kneeling controversy hit full stride, Robert Kraft, prominent owner of the New England Patriots issued a prepared statement. In it, he said something profound, something that cut to the heart of the matter. He said,"[t]here is no greater unifier in this country than sports, and unfortunately, nothing more divisive than politics." Nailed it! The first step in solving a problem is to identify the problem. Mission Accomplished.
For after all, is not the controversy that the players are injecting politics into sports, choosing the worst possible moment - the playing of the national anthem - and for a completely specious reason? (BLM is full of beef byproduct.)
Sadly, Kraft continued on to support the players' protests, stating "... I support their right to peacefully affect social change and raise awareness in a manner that they feel is most impactful."
Ahem. Bob, cannot you see the irony there? And as for impactful, how about running a balance sheet? FUMBLE! Perhaps his zeal for slamming Trump put logic and reason on the back burner.
Get the politics out of sports, people. You are tearing down Americs's stress relief mechanism.
NVA, their current contract with the Players Union required him to say that.
If that agreement gets renegotiated, then owners might be able to say and do more.
Please let me know when the ‘inmates’...errr, players start protesting 4% of the population committing over 50% of the violent crime.
I’ll wait.
I don’t care anymore, not paying attention to them, plenty of college football to keep me occupied, without the need to watch the NFL.
That is my position as well. I will enjoy the World Series and then start looking at College Football. But if there is one game where the Players are not standing for the National Anthem, I won’t watch College Football either.
Cuckold owners afraid of the big scarey black men.
One of the best pieces of wisdom I ever read was actually posted right here on FreeRepublic by a poster named Steel Wolf on 10/2/10 (I actually wrote this down, I was so impressed; LOL) ... he said: "If there's one thing Americans can't stand, it's people who suck at their jobs."
As astonishing as this may sound, it's turning out that most NFL owners actually suck at their jobs.
I dont give a damn what the NFL owners, commissioner, players, sycophants, or anyone else still spending money on them think, say or do.
Which is the reason ROME fell. People realized the fights were rigged (the LIONS always won) and the coliseum ended up empty.
Wasn't long before the citizens turned on the government.
Live with it sports fans. Professional football, from this date on, will be a political activity. Forever changed.
Dude, we've got way too much stress relief mechanisms out there already, the NFL is just a drop in the bucket.
My best stress relief mechanism is a day at the range and always has been. :^)
“Professional football, from this date on, will be a political activity.”
Possibly, but I no longer care.
“Forever changed.”
See above statement.
RIP NFL.
