I live in the Chicago metro. I travel throughout 3/4 of the area extensively and have for over 20 years. The areas with the highest number of children are latino and muslim neighborhoods. The most affluent neighborhoods of young whites have a large number of doggy day care centers. I do not see many mothers with small children or babies in these areas.
Whenever I engage in talk with native born Americans about having children (either their first or more children) I always hear how expensive they are. Past generations were able to have large families with a fraction of the wealth we have today. It’s an interesting change in attitude don’t you think?
