As I’m reading the article, the attorney alerted the jail as soon as he found out of the escape. If the jail staff failed to act on the report, that’s on them not the attorney.

That means that guards on three different shifts counted him as present multiple times. When they do an inmate count they are supposed to verify they see living, breathing flesh. They must have counted a lump under a blanket.
