Gaffes, TV ratings concerns dominated as NFL, players forged anthem peace (the boycott's working!)
ESPN Magazine ^ | October 27, 2017 | Seth Wickersham and Don Van Natta Jr.

Morale was bad inside the league office, and the pressure was not letting up. There was the looming notion that sponsors would leave the NFL -- not just because of the protests but because of an array of challenges confronting the league, including the continuing decline in TV ratings. Nearly all of the league's longtime sponsors, from Papa John's to USAA, were rattled, and fissures within the league offices and teams, to say nothing of the players, were starting to expand.

Polls show that the protest issue has resonated with millions of fans who insist all players should stand for the national anthem; some are calling for an NFL boycott and vowing to never watch another NFL game. Owners are alarmed at how rapidly fans' outrage is eroding many of the league's key business metrics, and executives at some broadcast partners have complained to owners about how the NFL lurches from crisis to crisis. A recent Morning Consult poll revealed that the NFL's net favorability has dropped to 11 percent from a high of 56 percent in May. Jones was furious that local TV ratings in Dallas were down, especially a 19 percent drop for this year's game against Green Bay, compared with last year's. "There is no question the league is suffering negative effects from these protests," he would tell reporters after the Cowboys routed the 49ers. "All times, I want to do the right thing by [NFL sponsors] and their customers. I have a great responsibility to the people who support us. ... We all get great benefits from having a lot of us watching our games. All of us do."

They have the leftist thugs power and this is what they did with it. The NFL is just a microcosm of when you cater to a culture that should be confined to a Petri dish.

The left wing ESPN pukes are peeing in their custom made suits and on their imported Italian loafers as ESPN continues to whack and remove these left wing Social Justice Warriors from their payroll.

ESPN is planning another round of layoffs just six months after the network fired more than 100 employees, Sporting News reports.

Multiple sources told the sports news site that 40 to 60 people including on-air talent and radio personalities may be sent packing.

The layoffs could come as soon as late November or early December.

ESPN declined Fox News’ request for comment.

The comments are interesting, and pretty evenly divided. <>p The article itself is long, but I'd say on balance, a bit more sympathetic to the players' side. But the thing I take away from the article is the picture of the fans at the top:

Just don’t let this issue detract from the NFL’s domestic violence problem. That would be truly shameful. They are leaving one matter unsolved after another.

I don’t know if it is just me, but I was rather shocked at a close-up of a bunch of those players on their knees at a game with that truculent look on their face. Their faces were not ennobled by a look of heart felt purpose or concern; it was all defiance. And I thought to myself: You mean that is what I have been watching?

They all looked like a lynch mob.

The NFL branding, “We don’t like our country.”

They have a very patriotic and mostly conservative fanbase (or had maybe).

The NFL should hire the DixiChicks as consultants. They know a thing or two about kicking their fans in the balls.

Anna Isaacson, the NFL's vice president of social responsibility, chief marketing officer Dawn Hudson and others had presented the plan to Goodell and top executives, including public relations chief Joe Lockhart, chief operating officer Tod Leiweke, chief media and business officer Brian Rolapp and general counsel Jeff Pash. Isaacson characterized the plan as a chance to seize the social moment and make an impact beyond football. There was also a request for a huge marketing budget.

The league's business executives ripped it, accusing Isaacson -- who had joined the NFL after working in merchandising and community relations for baseball's Brooklyn Cyclones -- and Hudson of losing sight of the goal, which was to persuade all the players to stand for the anthem. The plan was "too political," they said, and would likely invite further attacks by Trump. "How could you possibly present this to owners?" one executive asked. As the proposal was discussed, Goodell remained mostly quiet but seethed because he felt the plan was uninspired.

Where ever there is a problem, there is some chick that is the 'Vice President for Social Responsibility'...

So what a typical liberal ploy. The NFL holds a big pow wow in New York with players and some owners. Why just “some owners”? Owners like Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder are not invited by Goodell because they have sounded the alarm bell and want the league to demand that all players stand for the anthem. So with a biased group of 11 balless owners the group kowtows to the players and wants to spend a huge amount of money running an ad campaign that explains how the players have a valid cause. Good luck with that as even their own internal polling shows their favorability rating falling 40 some points to 11%.

40 to 0 beatdowns are not good for ratings either.
