A 12-year-old boy and 8-year-old girl concocted an elaborate story about a stalker causing an innocent man to be grilled by cops before their prank was finally revealed.
The Brooklyn kids, whose father is a special-victims detective, even penned a fake note to frame a passer-by who claimed he once lived in their home, according to law-enforcement sources.
Watch out. I am watching you!! Your daughter is cute, the letter read.

I wonder if the dude had lawyers beating down his door, to file a lawsuit?
Not exactly door bell ringers. Rather, shitty kids.
The potential law suit is going be a lot hard than it might be in other circumstances, because the “bad guy” is an 8 year old girl.
Where does the guy go, to get his reputation back? Is there such a thing as vicarious liability? Are the parents responsible for the kids misdeeds. He should try a lawsuit anyway, no matter how it turns out.
Didn't their father recognize the handwriting? Not much of a detective.
I’m not a parent, but I can imagine all professional detachment going out the window and being replaced by panic when the victim is your own child.
Children never lie...
He wouldn’t be allowed to handle an investigation involving his own children, even if he were in the right precinct?
No. He probably would not be allowed to do that, and for good reason. The Dad in such a case may delay getting the police officially involved, because he thinks he knows how to handle it better ‘before things go haywire!”. Or he may decide not to tell all he knows right away, because he thinks it best to wait.
Whatever the case, these kids have not learned empathy, compassion or personal responsibility. They don’t seem to know what kindness is or is not. My guess is the family does not have much religion in their lives except for holidays.
These kids need a psychologist to find out if this was just a prank gone bad, or if they truly do harbor the desire to cause others needless suffering. If the later, Dad better watch his back too.
Fans of old movies will think about a Black & White movie from the fifties called “The Bad Seed”. I still haven’t forgotten very dangerous, sociopathic little girl with Shirley Temple curls.
I wouldn’t think any children’s handwriting could pass as an adult’s.... or maybe they printed it from a computer???
Sounds like a Calvin and Hobbes versus Rosalyn the babysitter prank gone horribly wrong.
