This is what I have expected if there would be a real action. Quietly send out messages unofficially to many large corporations and organizations to pull out their assets and avoid trips to S. Korea. All business meeting with S. Korean counterparts or branch employees would be done outside the country. Instead of going into S. Korea, you ask them to come out of the country to meet you.

A CHINESE academic with close links to officials inside the country’s defence establishment has revealed that China is prepared to “go to war” with North Korea.

In a shocking bombshell interview, an academic with close ties to the Chinese government has warned that war with North Korea was on the table.

Chong Sho-Hu, who is a professor of international relations at the Renmin University, in Beijing, said that North Korea was “seeking death”.

He also confirmed that the long-lasting era of Chinese friendship with North Korea has ended.

Despite historic ties between the two countries, president Xi Jinping has reportedly become “fed up” with the erratic behaviour of the North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un.

LOL. A true nightmare scenario for N. Korea: two front war with U.S. and China. However, I doubt that it would happen. What China may do is to roll into N. Korea virtually unopposed after U.S. did all the heavy lifting.

However, PLA assuming battle-ready position on the north side of Yalu River may frighten lots of elites in Pyongyang.

Where does Taiwan fit in this picture? Is it a bargaining chip or not?

When the US and allies roll into the land south and up to Pyongyang I expect China will roll into the north and take control of the nuclear sites.

China does not want a South Korea on it’s border. Thus there will be a China controlled section somewhere - perhaps just north of Pyongyang. One could envision a new Berlin type situation, complete with an appropriate wall.

Went to Yugoslavia to visit relatives not long after Tito died. What a shocker!

Hotel we checked into held our passports. The main department store in Zagreb had just one rack of dresses and they were next to the toilet plungers! Policemen on every corner. City covered in grit. Could kick myself for not checking out grocery stores.

My cousin was the VP of a bank, his wife a teacher and their apartment was smaller than mine as a college student! His parents only had 2 rooms and the phone and bathroom down the hall. There was no middle class.

Russians I’ve met since then say Yugoslavia was picnic compared to the USSR!

A friend of mine went with a church group to build housing after the USSR collapsed. Romania I think? Maybe Austria. Can’t remember.

He said the same thing.
Everything was dirty and the peoples attitudes and appearance ranged from scared/fearful to a glimmer of hope. They just didn’t know what to make of these Americans who they had been taught to fear their entire lives.
The longer he was there the more the locals trusted his group.

They were there to repair buildings the socialist party had left in disrepair. He couldn’t believe it!
Just like you described.
The first building they went to had mom, dad and a child or two living in two rooms, shared bathroom on each floor and one phone on the ground floor. These were the factory workers and laborers.

According to him they had to gut the building and put in modern electric and plumbing as well as repair the shoddy work done when the building was built.

When they let the first residents back into their refurbed apartments they couldn’t believe the luxury!
The parents had a bedroom separate from the kids, a small living room and an eat in kitchen and their OWN BATHROOM.

By the time he left he said the change in the people was dramatic.
You could see real hope in peoples faces. They SAW things could be better for the first time in their lives.

I was talking with my Hungarian friend at a truck stop restaurant once when a guy who turned out to be Russian sat near us.
When the Russian left someone nearby said something about smelly foreigners.
My friend patiently explained the realities of life, that when food is rationed perfumed soaps and deodorant don’t exist.
He also said that if you walked into the Russians home you would probably find a hoard of food staples.
I didn’t doubt him.

What crap.

Yes, thank you, Carter, O’bright, Clinton, Bush and Obama it looks like all the chickens have come home to roust. What a disgrace you are and what a terrible disservice you performed for the American people and the world.

“My friend patiently explained the realities of life, that when food is rationed perfumed soaps and deodorant don’t exist.”

I was here on FR when Elián González was absconded by the Clinton administration.

An article called “5 (maybe 7?) days in Cuba” appeared. It was by a journalist who went off the beaten path and spent time with the common folk. She said they were beggin for aspirin. They lived in filth. Their life was hell.

To get grandma to their “wonderful” health care that wasn’t, you had to dump her in a wheel barrow and walk 20 miles or more. Websites start showing up with what the hospitals looked like for the non-ruling elite. Total pits.

Dead laid there for days. Blood everywhere, like Venezuela hospitals now.

Kaepernick lectured us on how Castro was wonderful. He and the NFL are idiots. Major. And then some. They are disgusting beyond belief.

Those NFL, Hollywood and political idiots either don’t realise or don’t care that they are useful idiots.

Well, the politicians know the truth. The nice places with good care are for the elites and are featured whenever visitors are allowed on carefully scripted “fact finding” trips.

The common people are left to starve and die slow lingering deaths as long as those at the top have their betters suck up the cream.
I wish the kneelers, Hollywood perverts and academic idiots had to live the life of a commoner in one of their Paradise countries.
