It was nearing the end of the NFL players’ strike, but in four days McClure, Buffalo’s replacement QB, was set to make his first professional start, against the Giants. Then a coach came bursting through the doors breathless, with an update. Lawrence Taylor, the Lawrence Taylor, had just crossed the picket line. Yes, the coach said after the inevitable follow-up question. Taylor would be suiting up on Sunday.

In that moment, two words came to McClure’s mind:

LT was one of the first biog time players to cross the picket line during the '87 Strike. I remember some of those games. Bill Walsh unleashed the Wishbone against the Giants. Joe Dudek who finished the highest ever in Heisman voting for a non-Division I player had a big game for the Broncos against the Scabders on MNF.

Worst Game
I venture to suggest that either team would have been as good as some of the early NFL champion teams.

Because progress . . .

Saw him play against the Eagles. You could not see him rush from point A to point B. He would teleport to the quarterback.

LT was one of those guys that made it looked easy. The great ones usually do.

Watching him make play after play, you think to yourself, why can’t every OLB do that?

I saw him in Tampa in the late 1980’s ... he had his worst game ever... Giants lost... found out later the Buccaneers sent 2 “dancers” with mass quantities of drugs to his hotel the night before...
