My thought is that, yes, we all have it within us to do bad things. I was brought up with the idea of "that of God in every man", so yes, this is God in my life, but it's internalized, I guess. It's not dependent on doctrine or ritual. But, it is real to me.
In my religion we believe we all have an urge to do what is right, as well as an urge to do what is wrong. It is up to us to listen to the right one and follow it.
